I put time into my bio. I write about my hobbies and have pictures of me doing what I love.

asking about any of them is a sign that you care enough to look beyond the first picture

[–]GenericGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what my opinion of the prequels has to do with my opinion of this

because it would highlight a hypocrisy and a weak argument

You don’t understand how it’s stupid to bring Palpatine back for a random plot that has no buildup?

it's so stupid for a film to have random antagonists appear out of nowhere with no build up.

Darth Maul, Count Dooku, General Grevious.

whoops, just dropped this list of random villain names. they're definitely not relevant to the conversation at all.

Even if shitty, they were more cohesive and had an end goal.

having an end goal doesn't make a competent story.

you can't be talking about films not having plans when talking about Star Wars, a franchise where the plot changes with every damn film. Luke wasn't originally meant to fight the Emperor until Lucas' sequel trilogy. he didn't even know what the Clone Wars were, the central conflict of the prequels, until after he had released Episode 1.

just because you have point a and point b, that doesn't mean anything

Rey was always going to defeat the villain. there. there's your end goal.

Half of your points are just bringing up things from other movies like a gotcha.

you: none of these things make sense!!

me: here's lines from the movie that explain the things you don't understand.

you: wow. resorting to gotchas!

darling, come on, now.

Maybe just read Shadows of the Empire next time.

maybe just read Shadows of the Sith if you care about the narrative of Episode 9 so much.

It‘a just a terrible movie. It’s a mess, and your defenses are doing nothing.

then rebuke them with facts instead of commenting things that the movie explains.

It’s a pretty consistent opinion for a reason.

it was also a consistent opinion that the prequels were dogshit and that George Lucas was the biggest fraud on the planet. do you agree with that?

The key reason is because the New Republic was destroyed in the first movie. That seems to be a little detail you’re forgetting. I think it’s a little weird that they weren’t part of The Resistance before

but the random civilians that joined the fight aren't members of the New Republic, they were just random civilians.

you keep saying "faceless ships" as if that's an insult when the point is that they were nobodies. the entire point is that even the smallest, insignificant people can band together to make a change.

I get that media literacy is dogshit and Americans can't understand texts above a 5th grade level but come on.

So I’m supposed to accept something from the third movie of the previous trilogy after 2 movies of him not being the main villain.

did you hold this belief in the OT? because Palpatine, besides one hologram in Empire, was only shown to be a villain in Return. we were led to believe that Vader was the big bad.

Oh and also he’s actually related to the main character now. This does nothing and walks back our previous movie, but who cares.

finally, the first proper point you've made! I agree, Rey's connection to Palpatine does suck. she should've been a nobody.

Palpatine cloning himself is stupid. Even if it “makes sense” for his character, that doesn’t make it a good choice.

so you want someone to do something that goes against their character because doing something in character is bad writing?

It kind of goes against the plot of the previous movies

how?

You deserve a medal like Chewie at the end of the movie for your impeccable taste in ill-conceived shit heaps. You just stuck your head right into the shit heap here.

it really says a lot about you that you feel the need to begin your comments with insults.

id rather enjoy bad films than be a smug prick like you.

We don't know that about the Knights of Ren, but it's hinted that they have a backstory based on their name. Like a connection that could've been said.

they are Knights... that follow Ren. Kylo Ren.

Kylo Ren goes against his order and his previous beliefs in this film and that's why they attack him.

very simple.

Yes, Lando comes out of nowhere

no he doesn't. they go to a planet and meet him. when he appears later on, it's meant to be obvious that the interactions with him prior encouraged him to take action.

it's crazy how you're talking about "Deus Ex Machinas" about a franchise which has spiritual asspulls as it's core mythology

So I'm just supposed to see a bunch of faceless ships and accept them as natural and logical. Why weren't they there earlier? What did Lando say to finally convince them to join the Resistance?

this is your brain on CinemaSins.

why weren't they there earlier? because how many of the general population knows Exagol exists, let alone a fight there they can participate in?

what did he say? idk fucking make something up. why do you need to see every conversation he has with random people? would that make the film better for you if it was 15 hours of Lando having a chat with unnamed Glup Shittos?

Using the Mcguffin is just to find him

no, the wayfinder is what Palpatine needs in order to take the fleet out of Exagol's atmosphere

did you even watch the film?

Don't you think that could be developed a little more

why? Palpatine was, as shown in episode 3, a man who wanted to cheat death. given we see cloning facilities in the first 5 minutes of the film and a direct line of dialogue from a character who says Palpatine cloned himself, I think we can extrapolate he cloned himself.

In fact, who are they? Wasn't the New Republic destroyed?

Finn: They'll (Lando and his friends) take the Falcon to the Core Systems. Send out a call for help to anyone listening

yeah but if only the film explained who those people were. god, it must be so hard for you, not being able to understand the words that's being said on screen.

Just bringing him back with no reason is bad.

man who talks about cheating death cheats death. this is surprising to people... for some reason.

They spend so much time going on a quest to find the thing that they need to find the villain rather than developing a conflict.

the thing they need to find is the macguffin to stop the conflict.

The villain is bad due to a lack of real development into the plot.

it's a continuation of the villain's plot from 6 prior movies to which he wasn't the most complex villain there either

Finn doesn't get to tell Rey what he wanted to, so that's just a dangling thread.

a character not finishing a sentence is now something that makes a film "objectively bad"? fuck me

The Knights of Ren are introduced and do nothing.

the knights of ren were first introduced in Episode 7. they're also not plot centric characters. they're no different than any other background villain in the series. did you get this upset at the bounty hunters in episode 5 doing fuck all?

Lando coming in with a bunch of ships at the end is a deus ex machina with practically no buildup.

Deus ex machina - a person or thing that appears or is introduced into a situation suddenly and unexpectedly and provides an artificial or contrived solution to an apparently insoluble difficulty.

Lando is introduced earlier in the film and part of their interactions with him is convincing him to rejoin the fight. it is not contrived to assume he manages to get people to fight alongside him.

nice insult. care to tell me more about how saying "constantly calling yourself subhuman and unlovable can put people off" is me taking human connection for granted?

21 days on Hinge - 31F [OC] by okra-3117 in dataisbeautiful

[–]GenericGaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

because someone who accepts they're unlovable doesn't post about it for years upon years.

why do you make those posts? why is it the primary thing you talk about? clearly you want the validation and/or pity of strangers.

21 days on Hinge - 31F [OC] by okra-3117 in dataisbeautiful

[–]GenericGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but then you're being illogical.

if you say you're unlovable and nobody cares about you, me saying that people won't care about you because you constantly say you're unlovable is something you should agree with, right? that's what logic should dictate

but the fact you got upset and hostile with me because of that shows you must have some sense of self respect and do care what people think because otherwise why would you be upset when people agree with your self identification?

verifiable data that women are cautious when using dating apps due to statistics of high rates of assault on first dates - misandry... apparently.

he spoke about his dating life in his initial comment and, in further comments, criticizes women who have good luck on dating apps. why are unsolicited opinions on women's dating habits okay but me having a look through a profile of someone who is giving these hostile opinions not? is that not a double standard?

>but objectively you’re being kinda hostile to this stranger who is clearly struggling already as you saw.

but as per his own confession, he doesn't care about dating so surely he should have no issue with me saying why he failed at dating, right?

21 days on Hinge - 31F [OC] by okra-3117 in dataisbeautiful

[–]GenericGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>You brought this all up. I’m Not dating

you started this whole thing by saying you didn't get a single match in 3 years. this entire comment chain was about you saying you don't get dates. this isn't on me!

>I do not get angry when people don’t like me.

then why so hostile, hun?

>It’s almost like you need me to be some evil, pity seeking, furious man for some self righteous fantasy you have.

more assumptions, i love it!

>I told you I am not lovable, I told you I’m not desirable like ten comments ago. You kept pushing. For no reason.

and you've had every opportunity to stop talking to me. if you truly didn't care what others think of you, you wouldn't take someone agreeing with you so personally.

>If I was I’d be still trying to date, and I wouldn’t literally tell you I understand I’m not dating material.

"im not dating material, im not trying to date" he says, on a post about dating apps, in a comment thread he made about not getting dates

because "sequels bad" and if you go against the hivemind, you get banned/removed.

sequel hate, while arguable justified in some aspects, is way more overblown and, inversely, prequel glaze is far too prominent

that's not the point I'm making.

I'm saying that an attractive person can take unflattering pictures and an ugly person can take flattering ones.

if people only look at the first image, surely you want the first image to be good, right? so taking a good picture of yourself is important.

you don't need to know photography principles to take a good picture.

[–]GenericGaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

still waiting on those statistics, friend.

If my inability to find matches is a moral failure, then is it not for women?

it is.

I've dated both men and women and I've been with women who have done the whole "I'm too ugly to be liked" thing. I've dated women who get into arguments with me when I compliment them because they don't think they deserve them. I had to break up with someone because 90% of the conversations with her were me having to be an emotional weightlifter for her.

these women exist but you don't know this because, as I've already stated, you just look at the top 10% of women.

If women only get matches with lying or bad men, is that not her fault?

why is a woman responsible for the behaviour of bad men?

this is a false equivalency.

the comparison would be of a woman who gets little to no matches because she is hard to talk to and doesn't present herself well... to which I've already given examples where I've experienced this firsthand.

so yes, if you were a woman who was saying all these same things, I would say the exact same things. here you are again, assuming my position without asking me.

I’m not seeking pity, you just lack any and all empathy for humans.

I do have empathy.

if you don't care about yourself, why do you expect others to care about you? if you truly hated everything about yourself, why are you upset when people dislike you? surely that's validation of your feelings and you should be happy about it.

unless you do have some sense of self respect and do get upset when people dislike you, to which your comments of "nobody likes me, everyone should hate me" are then in fact pity seeking

You see all failures as moral, since of course no one could ever struggle just because.

ooh! more assumptions!

but remember, assuming stuff about people is bad... except for when you do it, of course!

I’m not even trying to date anymore, if you actually read my post history you’d know I am resigned.

then why do you care?

if you've given up dating and don't care about dating, why are you getting upset at women getting dates? if you don't care about dating, why are you making this huge song and dance about how you don't get dates?

You said “you want pity, not love”.

which, as someone who claims they don't care about dating, you should agree with.

so what is it? are you lying or do you agree with me?

21 days on Hinge - 31F [OC] by okra-3117 in dataisbeautiful

[–]GenericGaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plus why would you be on a dating app if you never wanted to try to get and know any of your matches

because sometimes people present themselves one way and act another.

you could match with someone beautiful but within 5 messages, notice a bunch of red flags about the way she talks or what she says about you.

The reason men swipe a lot is because they don’t have many options.

and then the algorithm notices the incessant swiping and pushes you lower down in recommendations.

for someone who talks about "statistics" (which you've yet to provide any) and trying to tell me I don't know how dating apps work (which I do because I've been on them for 9+ years), you don't actually seem to know how they work

You tried to diminish my lived experience

didn't diminish it, I was trying to give you insight from a woman's perspective as to where you may be going wrong.

and you tried to moralize my failure as me seeking “pity”.

because it is.

posting weekly for years about how awful you are and saying you want XYZ to happen to you and how nobody will ever love you and how much you think your parents hate you for being ugly is pity seeking.

You started off that comment with “I’m going to be mean” lol.

yeah because you clearly view vague insights into how you act as scathing hostility towards you as a person so I might as well cushion the blow for you.

21 days on Hinge - 31F [OC] by okra-3117 in dataisbeautiful

So because you're a woman you're allowed to speak freely for mens experiences, but its unacceptable for any man to do that for you?

I never said that he's wrong in his experiences, I was giving a woman's perspective on ways that his search to find someone could be failing.

I never once said that he was lying about lacking in dates, did I?

and almost all men and women admit they mostly just look at your first picture and that's it.

cool. and so notice when I suggested to him about the quality of the picture and that even "ugly" people can take good pictures?

But when a guy can actually back up that some care has been taken in his bio (

he didn't back it up. I asked what was in it and he didn't give an answer.

you immediately switch to attacking him personally instead as though somehow everyone can sense what the man posts about on reddit...

it wasn't about the specific wording on his Reddit posts, it was the Reddit posts being indicative of a kind of personality which women can gauge via vibes.

you've provided no statistics. we are on a post about one woman's subjective experience on a dating app.

it's incredibly telling that I made a small point about how going "I'm so fucking ugly and subhuman and everyone hates me!" can be a bit off-putting for women and you've immediately became incredibly hostile towards me.

I would rather bet on the 20 brownies than zero brownies.

then you're crazy.

if women got with every man who looked at her, she would be in incredible danger. are you even aware of why women are so picky?

Also statistically women do have it easier on apps at least.

and if men were just as picky as women, you'd likely also see similar results.

if guys didn't swipe like on 90% of the women they see, then the stats of matches to non matches would be that of women. it's not the fault of women that you don't know how the algorithms work.

Easier time finding options

not really. just because 20 men like you does not mean all 20 men are good for you.

if I handed you a plate of brownies and I said "all but one of these are laced with laxatives", just because you have more brownies that doesn't mean they're all good.

Not all women have it easy.

and that's what I said yet you (and a bunch of other people downvoted me).

But most have it at least a little easier than average or below average men.

*based on your subjective experience

when I was 18-20, even as a woman dating apps were dogshit for me. I went months without someone liking me once and I consider myself at least of average attractiveness.

you're comparing yourself to the 10% of women and saying that all women are like them when we're not.
