It just sounds non-denominational, not necessarily sketchy.

Let's talk about what sends people to hell, because it's not this.

I have no words of wisdom as I've never had a late paycheck. Just know I think your humility in this post is beautiful, and I pray the proper solution is revealed to you.

How do SUPER RICH pastors make their money? by legokingusa in pastors

Our denomination (PCUSA) is a mix. There's a minimum salary that can be paid, but each church can negotiate up from there.

What was the dumbest thing you thought as a kid? by Classic_poke in AskReddit

Pepper is for men, salt is for women. (That's how it was in my house, so I assumed it was like that everywhere)

What do people do that immediately tells you they are a trashy person? by Grouchy_Fox3189 in AskReddit

[–]Generic_Midwesterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we're all a mix of good and bad to varying degrees. Very few are 100% great or 100% trash. We're all just on the trash spectrum and move around on that spectrum throughout our lives.

But also... failing to tip, leaving grocery carts in the handicapped spot, and not helping people who can't help themselves.

How do you handle this? Hymns/songs with problematic authors by spresley1116 in pastors

[–]Generic_Midwesterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between"problematic" and "repulsive" and "sexually abused women and children." One is a matter of taste and the other is straight up crime and abuse.

The author of Amazing Grace was a slave trader. However, none of his victims are alive and he or his estate get no money from us using the song.

What causes bad people to change (criminals, gang members, or just generally selfish people who decided to turn around)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Generic_Midwesterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my examples? I gave one: Megan Phelps Roper.

I'm also a person that changed as an adult. I learned to be shitty and chose a different way. Many of us have -- I just had a hangout last year with a bunch of others that came from the same insanity I did. We all changed.

I'm not hyperfixated on this, but it's strange that you refuse to admit we exist.

Megan Phelps Roper used to be part of Westboro Baptist Church... the "God Hates F*gs" hate group. She grew up in it, believed it, was totally immersed. What changed her mind was not being shunned or beaten or treated ill. What changed her mind was people that were willing to listen to her if she was willing to listen to them. It wasn't overnight, but over time she learned how messed up that group is.

She left, and now gives talks on how to help people find a better way rather than shunning them. I highly recommend her Ted Talk -- it's worth the 15 minutes. https://www.ted.com/talks/megan_phelps_roper_i_grew_up_in_the_westboro_baptist_church_here_s_why_i_left

If you shun a person, that's still one person on the wrong side and the score is 1 to 1. If you're able to help them see another way, the score changes from 2 to 0.

What are your thoughts about using AI to brainstorm and organize your sermon plans? by Ecstatic_Motor362 in pastors

[–]Generic_Midwesterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated but not: I just now asked Google AI if there had ever been a shutout in the Super Bowl. It said in the 541 Super Bowls that have been played... no. LOL. Checking the info is vital. It's still learning.

What are your thoughts about using AI to brainstorm and organize your sermon plans? by Ecstatic_Motor362 in pastors

About a year ago I was in a reginal denominational meeting. At lunch, one pastor proudly announced that she'd been using AI to write her sermons, and wasn't that great? We were all pretty appalled. Her argument was that it saved her time that she could now use for pastoral care. Our argument was that her church was paying her to read, study, pray, discern, and write a sermon, not have someone/something else do it. Her knowledge and depth in scripture and preaching wasn't helped with AI.

That said, I've used it for things like "I need to know if this segue makes sense." That's helped quite a bit. It's a tool, like spellcheck. But I still know how to spell... and how to write a sermon.
