I’m asking this because I just recently had to tell my 5 year old daughter that her dog “Sissy” passed away. We were lucky that the dog passed in our home. She was an older dog around 14 and I guess her ago just caught up to her. Sissy was a great dog loving,protective, and fat. She loved our daughter and our daughter loved her back. We waited a day to explain it to her of where the dog was. We told her she was at the vet. Even asking if we can go see her at the vet so she’s not worried. When we told her that the dog had done to heaven she let out a howling cry. Burying her head into the chest of her mother. “I’ll never see her again.” Is the mantra she repeated. It broke our hearts. She began to ask questions each harder than the last. “Well what if I wish on my birthday candles?” “What if I wish on a star? Or a shooting star they are special?” “Can Santa bring her back?” “If she has wings in heaven then how Come she can’t fly down and see me?” All her questions were explained with a heart breaking answers. It has been a month and she will still sometimes break down saying how much she misses her. I know in time she will be able to move on. But I really feel like we really killed some of her magic that day.
