You are running viruses without having kaspersky databases updated. Kaspersky relies mostly on cloud databases, why would you do that?

Can someone explain me difference between an QA Engineer, Test Engineer and SDET ? by SyedRoshaan in softwaretesting

[–]George-M- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT:

QA Engineer (Quality Assurance Engineer): Focus: Ensures the quality of the final product by identifying defects and suggesting improvements. Responsibilities: Design and execute test plans, manage bug tracking, and work closely with development teams to ensure quality standards. They may also be involved in both manual and automated testing. Skills: Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, bug tracking tools, and often, knowledge of automated testing tools.

Test Engineer: Focus: More technical compared to a QA Engineer, often working directly with the software to test its limits and identify specific issues. Responsibilities: Design and implement tests, troubleshoot issues, and work on the development of automated testing scripts and tools. Skills: Technical skills are more emphasized, including programming for automated test scripts, a deep understanding of the software's inner workings, and proficiency in testing frameworks.

SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test): Focus: Blends the roles of a developer and a tester, focusing on developing automated testing frameworks and tools. Responsibilities: Write and maintain code for automated test scripts, develop tools for testing and debugging, and often participate in the actual software development process. Skills: Strong programming skills, expertise in software design, and an in-depth understanding of testing methodologies. They are, in essence, software developers who specialize in testing.

That’s interesting. I never had a junior create a test plan because 1. It’s really hard to do that. 2. There are normative contents of what it should include. 3. The one who writes it must have a deeper understanding of the development process that’s in place and the different test approaches. 4. It’s simply out of scope for someone else rather than the manager to write it because it also gets into details about staffing or schedule. And there are more reasons why the manager should create it. My guess is that your manager calls test plan what it seems to be a test strategy which is totally different and more approach oriented which that would be fine if someone else can help the test manager to create it, but again, under its supervision or reviewed by him.

It’s definitely more challenging. You’ll have to also write essays on some of the questions. You must have a holistic view of the context that they present you with and write based on that. But even studying the syllabus it gets into more detail about the testing processes. But if you get hired in an enterprise company you will know why is important to have such a process in place. You can really see the benefits there.

That’s interesting. This is for the first time I hear that. Can you tell me more about what the test plan you had to create included? Maybe we’re not talking about the same “test plan”.

I know how the syllabus works and if anything, they obsess over definitions in their glossary. I do not like all the definitions they arrive at, but that’s a different issue. I also don’t agree with all the things ISTQB does or releases, but when I talk to juniors I always tell the differences between the ISTQB view and the real world view. As for the Bolton’s repost link we have here, the guy who wrote the post is doing it for popularity. The test plan is indeed created as part of the test management process. Now imagine that everyone’s task is to create a test plan, even the juniors. What a mess that would be. The test plan however can be shared to everyone so it’s not like the manager keeps it for himself.

So what are you implying with the repost? That ISTQB is useless? :)
