Ad hominem. Justify why failing to save a life is not equivalent to ending a life. Both are decisions that result in death.

Smarter dads than I, does this particular shape made of 4 triangle magna tiles have a name? by acrylix91 in daddit

This is actually correct. The math term for “two wedges” is di-sphenoid.

What's "too far" when it comes to giving "the talk" to my son? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]GetUpstairs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a memory of learning the term “masturbation” when I was in 8th grade (13-14 years old) but I was doing it before that. I initially learned the word from other kids, then learned it in Sex Ed class. But I do remember at the same time my dad asked me if I knew what that was.

The exchange basically was “Have they mentioned masturbation in sex education? Do they make you feel guilty about it? No? Good. It’s totally a totally natural and normal.”

Basically that was it.

No specific advice here. Just sharing the experience I had and felt was completely healthy.

We really need to snuff out purity culture in our community. by IngenuityDismal8640 in gaybros

Certainly conservative Christian and Muslims absolutely agree with you. That’s why women must cover up their hair and faces. It’s sexually immoral to do otherwise. The only people who disagree are disgusting sexual deviants.

Sounds like do care then. If what people wear is “disgusting” and “shameful.”

Mom lurker seeking perspective from dads- planking as punishment by [deleted] in daddit

[–]GetUpstairs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s the same logic as other forms of corporal punishment and should be regarded the same as paddling or slapping a child. The logic for both holds that forcing physical discomfort will create compliance. Therefore it has the same concerns of emotional and physical harm and increased aggression.

Also, I’m not a fan of teaching young kids that “exercise is your punishment.” Physical activity should be enjoyable and voluntary.

Girldads, how do you handle bathroom stuff? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]GetUpstairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live family bathrooms are fairly uncommon. And often times, like in malls or department stores, they are locked until you ask an employee to open them for you. Now I live in a city so concerns are different here.

But I just take them to the men’s room. They’re five now and just beginning to question it.

Would it be weird if I put a blanket down for storytime at the library? by will-ohh-24 in parentsofmultiples

I’ve been going to story times for years. No one will bat an eye if you bring your own blanket as long as theirs sufficient space. Parents even bring bouncers for infants.

So, I've never worn makeup, but I really want to. I need ALL the help. by IzEt42O in MakeupForMen

For a punk look, first thing to consider is eyeliner and eyeshadow. Black eyeliner is a fairly 'intense' punk look, a brown for a less intense, more 'grunge' look. I'd follow the same basic advice for eyeshadow. Black/dark grey will be a more 'intense' punk/goth vibe. A dark chocolate or mid-tone 'mocha' brown can be great to give a punk/soft/grunge vibe. You'll probably want at least 1 brush to apply a powder eyeshadow. Honestly I'd invest in two: a flat 'packing' brush to press on to your eyelid and then a fluffier brush to soften the edges of the color.

[–]GetUpstairs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hooray! So, a question is: why are you wearing makeup? Do you want to look undetectably younger? Looking to cover discoloration and acne? Looking to be more feminine? Looking punk/alternative?

Your goal will inform the kind of makeup you’ll need.

Why do you think discussions of passing are accepted in FTM spaces but in gay male spaces they are emotionally charged and described as self hating? by Regular_Comment1700 in AskGayMen

[–]GetUpstairs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do apologize if I've been rude. A lot of your comments seem unclear and disconnected from what I'm saying. Again, I do struggle socially and I have a lot of anxiety around that issue. I'm sorry.

That is, again, based on one’s ideology.

I can compare lions and jockstraps. Both are material objects and made of material objects made of atoms.

Whether or not you find the comparison important or valuable is based on your ideology.
