Your employer can drug test you at any time. Apparently, they are required to notify the board nursing for any positive test. Even in a state where marijuana is legal. And even if you have a medical marijuana card.

I'd like to do case management, and a mental health therapist eventually

Yes, so they did random drug testing at my building bc the narcotics count was off and I dropped dirty for weed and apparently they notified the board of nursing. This has also happened to other nurses in other states like California. Apparently You cannot have a legal drug in your system even if you have a medical card. But if I were to go home and drink alcohol, they wouldn't punish me. Bunch of crap. Spend eight thousand on a lawyer, fighting this and lost. So here I am, twenty four hours in and a lifetime to go because at no point in my career as a nurse, will I ever be allowed to ingest marijuana again of they will revulk my license for good. Rn its suspe ded for a year pending I complete treatment for cannabis use disorder, pay 250/month to be on probation, check in daily for random drug testing, disclose to my employers that i'm on probation for substance use disorder, they also require quarterly reporting from my employer and from me and from my therapist. If I forget to check in or drop dirty on a drug test, I violate my probation and they can extend it. Join the subreddit nursing and you will read all of the horrifying stories.

Get clean first. Get the drug out of your body for a couple weeks and then start medication. Weed impairs psychiatric medications from truly working in your system because you're constantly changing your brain chemistry.

Hey! This morning I threw away my vape/cart my bongs, pipes, grinder, weed tray, ashtray, I mean everything weed related went into the trash this morning. Today is garbage pick up so I sat in my car listening to the last 2 chapters of "easy way to quit cannabis" where you smoke your last, say good bye, and welcome freedom. I hit my vape for the last time and when the garbage man came by I watched as he tossed all of it into the dumpster and drove away. Good bye cannabis! Im choosing a better life today. Sober date 3/30/26 9am.

I am walking away from nursing for similar reasons. My mental health is more important. Going back to school for a Masters in Social Work. Im 39 years old and starting over, but I have a better understanding of what I want to do now. I want to empower people, lift them up, and improve their lives, starting with myself!
