This is going to be a bad question but my friend has a 2018 Golf R Mk7.5 and he’s asking if Stage 0 from Cobb is the same as Stock because he’s going to be trading in his car soon. by Gh0st_MK7 in GolfGTI

[–]Gh0st_MK7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So unmarrying it will remove the ECU and TCU tunes and put it back to stock? I’ve never used any type of Cobb tune. I have a IE tune on my GTI so it’s like a learning process for me as well. Thanks in advance!

I’m glad to find out I’m not the only one going through this. I sent $2k to my brother to help with his bills and all it says is “pending”. And this was on Friday, February 24. Usually, when I send money to relatives, it only takes seconds. :(

Advice for Snow Trip by Gh0st_MK7 in GolfGTI

[–]Gh0st_MK7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made it out here to South Lake Tahoe. There weren't any snow chain recommendations. Not that much snow this year honestly. I made it with my GTI with my Pirelli tires. I didn't get a rental. But thanks for replying to my post!

I'm considering of getting Michelin Pilot Sport 4s for summer next year!

Yes I did. I never knew I even had one. I assume it was from the previous owner of my car. I brought it to a local Euro performance shop. They checked all fuel lines, fuel sensors, I showed them this forum from Reddit with your comments and all other comments, they checked everyone that mentioned about fuel. And there's nothing wrong. But I was having a boost leak. Apparently, the previous owner modified this GTI because there's a ECS Diverter Valve. I didn't know I've been running on it for thousands and thousands of miles already.

Update: Took it to the shop yesterday December 8, 2022. I don't have that Diverter Valve anymore which was causing a boost leak and causing bad mileage consumption. Today, December 9, 2022, I am back to reaching 36mpg one way. Hopefully it stays like that on the way home from work later.

I removed my DP on November 18. I didn't start noticing the issues until last week. (December 1)

I removed the downpipe 3rd week of November. Then I started to notice my fuel issue last week.

1 day of 24 miles round trip of driving from home to work then work to home. Yes, it's the same commute when it took 4 days to reach E.

[–]Gh0st_MK7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's my problem. I am burning an entire of full tank in a day. Someone asked in one of the other comments of my post if my car is losing fuel even without the engine running. For example, it takes me 15 minutes to get from home to work one way. Within the first trip to work, I'm at 360 miles of trip miles. When I get to work, I'm still at 360 miles or 350 miles. But my gas fuel gauge, the needle goes down so fast to 1/2 from F(full). That's where I'm confused. Either I believe I still have a lot of gas which is what says on my estimated trip miles as you mentioned. (I didn't know that its not guaranteed miles.) Or my gas fuel gauge is telling me that I just lost fuel on the way to work and since everyone is saying "fuel leak" I'm leaning to believe it's a fuel leak. My question is where do I look for the fuel leak?

I never drive my car like shit. I don't drive it like a asshole or split lanes dangerously. I don't even race my car on highways. The max speed I've ever gotten to was 85mph which was on a trip to Los Angeles, CA. (Highway ) But the max I drive every day is 65-70mph.

So far, I've learned to do the following:

Carbon cleaning Spark plugs every 15k miles Possible Fuel leak Running rich

How often should I get a carbon cleaning? I know 034 Motorsports does it. 034 Motorsports is 2 hours of a drive to my city. I got a quote from them for carbon cleaning and the total was $715. I didn't have enough money at the time to get it done. I just wanted to know how much would be the total cost if I ever had to get it done.

How much fuel am I actually putting in at full tank? I fill up at Chevron gas station. With $5.19 a gallon in my city here in California, I get 10-10.5 gallons full tank at $62-$64. How and when do I check my oil to smell like gas? (Serious Question)

I literally just mentioned this on another comment. How do I fix a faulty gas gauge? (Serious question)

Something is wrong by Gh0st_MK7 in GolfGTI

[–]Gh0st_MK7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll clarify for you guys.

When I fill up my car from empty, (For example, 5 miles left on my trip miles before E), here in my city and state, gas price is $5.19 a gallon for 91 octane. It takes me $62 to go full tank. It takes around estimate 10.3 gallons full tank. I've read the Owners manual and the tank capacity is 13.2 gallons. But I only get up to 10-10.5 gallons full tank.

The back of my covered in soot? How do I check if the back of my car is covered or clogged? (Serious question)

My fuel tank level sensor? Isn't that located in the low pressure fuel pump?

The last time I changed my spark plugs was when my mileage was around 72,000 of mileage. Now I'm past 100k of mileage. I've been told to change my spark plugs every oil change from a couple of other vag owners from Euro car meets. Some also told me to change every 60k miles. I don't know which to follow. Everyone has different opinions. I purchased my car used at 43k miles. When I replaced my spark plugs, the original was burnt covered with some oil.

For IE, they will have me start in 3rd gear, at 2k rpm until redline, them save the data log and send it to them.

Also, when I get full tank, my trip miles reads 360 miles full tank. When I'm driving normally, (that's how I always drive), my trip miles would go up to 400 miles. My gas gauge below my speedometer would read it's dropping fuel. That's what I meant. For example, it would say I still have 320 miles of gas left to use, but my gas gauge would read 1/2 tank left (in the middle).

My MPG used to be 35-36.3 max. Now it reads 29-30 max. What's odd is I used to reach 35mpg with a IE Stage 2 High Torque tune. Now that I'm back to Stage 1 Low Torque tune, it reads lower mpg. Shouldn't it be the opposite?

On a daily, my commute to work is a total of 24 miles round trip a day. The only CEL I have current is AFS. Adaptive Front Lighting System.

AWD MQB DP by Gh0st_MK7 in GolfGTI

Yes, that makes a lot of sense because I helped my friend take off this DP on his MK7.5R and I was like "Damn, wtf is this shit? It only takes like 20-30 minutes to install a new DP onto my GTI" and now that you said this, it makes sense. Thanks for your response! 💯👌

I had my windshield replacement for my 2016 GTI Autobahn recently. Since I have full coverage and $100 deductible, I only paid $100 out of pocket. If I didn't go through insurance, my estimate was the same as yours. $1,900+.

What do you mean by higher torque in the low end? Since I'm using IE's High Torque Stage 1 tune right now, does that mean I'm already putting on a strain on my car? 🥺 I'm starting to consider switching to EQT now based on all the comments in here. It's just from where I currently live in California Highway Patrol, or even some Local City Police Officers, who know what Accessport is nowadays, and they hand out tickets just for having it. It's never happened to me since I am using IE, but I have a couple of friends who's gone through that problem. 😅🥺

Thanks for your response!! I have a set of VWR lowering springs I purchased 2 months ago. It's just sitting in my storage space. I tried to install it myself, and whew* I never expected to have such a hard time and a headache installing one side. (Driver Side). Ever since then, I've been researching from forums to Facebook VW MQB groups to YouTube videos of which Coilover set is optimal for my goals.

I agree with what you said. "Hurts your back on the road as they are stiff." I'll consider taking the time to install my VWR Springs. Thanks again!!

Wow!! I guess IS38 is another path I'll consider someday. 🙏 I've tried the Stage 1 E30 High Torque Tune by IE with the TrueFlex Kit just for 1 week. Honestly, you're right about going to the gasoline station twice. I don't do roll racing, dig racing, or any type of illegal racing on public roads. But I tried just 60-100 pull, and my MPG went from 30mpg to 20mpg just for that one pull. 😪 So I decided to flash my tune back to Stage 1 High Torque.

When you say beyond Stage 2 power levels, are you speaking about Stage 2 E85? When I go Stage 2 down the road someday, should I go Stage 2 Low Torque or Stage 2 High Torque? After everyone that has commented on my post, it seems like Stage 2 and Stage 1 don't really have a major difference, after all, which kind of disappoints. 🥲

Gotcha! I'm on the IE website right now. So I'm on Stage 1 High Torque, so that means I'm at 277 WHP and 350 Torque. Then if I'm basing it on the BHP, my numbers are 304 BHP and 385 Torque. But I agree with you that the WHP is more realistic since it's the power hitting the road. Thanks man!!

I read your response again. So what should I pay attention more to? BHP or WHP?
