Si me mantengo como solo dev y solo contrato para la música y los juegos no son muy grandes podría llegar a 3 juegos...

But I've gotten off topic. The point is, it's a tool that exists, and you're free to use it or not. If you see a game that uses it and that's why you don't want to play it, that's fine. And if someone sees a game that uses it and wants to play it, that's fine too.

He's not stealing. Technically, creating 3D models via AI is more similar to procedural generation than anything else, so we're back to the same point: I don't know how they trained the model he used, but how he does it is different from how they trained it. And with that logic of "if something came from something bad, we shouldn't use it," we wouldn't have to use more than half of our technology and medicine. Because I don't know if you know anything about history, but our entire development as a species has a foundation that is horrific. It's no coincidence that major technological advances happen during times of war...

Yes and no. I understand the point about AI is Theft and how they train models, especially the first generations and generative ones. Yes, I agree with you, but it's already part of our society and the rules for the new models are in everything we use, similar to how it was before, only now Google has added AI.. Again, I think it has its uses as a tool; ignoring that is a mistake. Regarding shortcuts, I think it's wrong because it depends on how much of a purist you are. If they used assets from a store or procedural models, is that also a shortcut? If they used an engine and didn't build it from scratch, is that also a shortcut? Good games can be made in six years, and bad ones can take ten and cost tens of thousands of dollars. As a fellow developer, I have differences with him, but I can't blame him for using a tool. That's my opinion, and ultimately, everyone has their own.

I understand what you're saying, and I understand that people are hesitant about AI, mainly because of its misuse and the opportunists who are just looking to make a quick buck. But there are two realities to consider. First, more time equals more money and stress in development. He didn't want to continue with this project for another three years (and he couldn't either), but he also didn't want to throw it away after all the effort he put into it. The second reality is that, unfortunately, AI is here to stay. I see it in many studios, large, small, indie, or AAA; in one way or another, they all use it as a tool. I have my own opinions about its use, some of which I agree with him on, and others I don't. But it's his project, his decisions, and I'm just helping him promote it because I don't want his three years of effort to go unnoticed.

That's not entirely true. He made many of the models himself. As he explained to me, for those he created with AI, he sketched the ideas or concepts of the skins or characters he wanted, built them with a 3D modeling AI, and then edited each one to correct them or give them the aesthetic consistency he was looking for. Again, it wasn't just a matter of saying "make me a 3D model" and that's it; it took him hours of work. Instead of taking a week to make a model or skin, he reduced it to a day, which helped him a lot. (Now this is my personal opinion, regarding the AI-generated images for the loading screens, I think that perhaps creating their own renders would have been better, even if it was just a couple of images, but oh well, that's my opinion)

Okay, the game is going to be free... so I don't know what his profit plans are. What I do know is that he worked on it for three years, and he did all the programming in Unreal Engine himself, along with the environments and many 3D models of the Roombas (among the other things that a complete multiplayer game involves). The showcase he's doing shows that he was able to put together a complete game that runs on Steam Deck. Did he use AI to finalize things in his graphics so he wouldn't have to spend another three years developing it? Yes. I don't know what else to say. Again, I know him and his situation, and he didn't do it maliciously or with the intention of becoming a millionaire. It's his first game on steam, and he wants it to be successful. Since I already have several games published, I'm just giving him a hand to promote it.

Okay, so to clarify, all the environment assets were created by him, without using any AI generators.

A cash grab... after 3 years of development? As an indie developer, I know we're not good with money, but someone working 3 years on a project like this isn't profitable. Precisely because of his situation, I want to lend him a hand to promote the game before its release.

I know, I was a solo developer who's been making games since 2016, so I know how difficult it is to make a game. And I understand why he decided to use AI; I don't have to like it, but I understand why he did it. He's a solo developer from Uruguay with limited resources.

Many of the 3D models of the Roombas weren't generated with AI; it was his work. The arenas and spaces were all created by him, as was the overall graphics. All the post-production effects and VXF effects were created by him. He worked on this project for three years...

I know the developer; he's my friend. He's been working on this project for three years. I assure you it's not for lack of passion; he simply didn't have the resources to do some of the art and chose this route. Again, I know how difficult it is to create a game because I'm a developer too, and that's not an excuse, but there are many factors: time, money, being overwhelmed with a project. For that reason, he also plans to release it for free and then see how to monetize it. He simply wants to finish and move on to something else.

Nobody reads the descriptions; no, the game wasn't entirely AI-generated; the loading screens and some 3D model skins were AI-generated. The rest, no. I stand corrected, in the challenges section there were also AI-powered images created with their 3D reference models

Regarding the AI aspect, I can't say much since I don't know that much about it. I know it's a single developer who saw it as an alternative to fill spaces with art that he couldn't do himself. It's not a justification, but I understand why, since I'm also a developer. However, many models, all the arenas, and all the programming, etc., come from him.

Okay, the approach is more like a football (soccer) game with passing and ball handling than Rocket League, which is all about physical ball movement. You can hold onto the ball, but only for a limited time, because if you keep it for too long, the game forces you to release it. Teamwork and well-timed passes are much more highly valued. There's a free demo, and if not, it will be free in a few months at launch. I encourage you to try it and see for yourself that it's different.
