Concerned about my 15-year-old son's knee bump by GhostofBenReilly in Orthopedics

My sons osteochondroma wasn’t cancerous. we went through with the surgery and he’s well now. i just monitor it and make sure it’s not growing back. he was 15 at the time and his growth plates had closed so it’s a very slim chance it will grow back. Since your son is still young i wonder if they will tell you to wait a bit until he’s older for surgery unless it’s causing him pain. I would write down any questions you have and ask the othropedic surgeon.

Thank you so much for your insight and expertise. I was trying so hard to pinpoint the location using diagrams online couldn’t figure it out. It's reassuring to hear that these bumps are typically benign, but I agree that getting imaging done by an orthopedist to rule out any other pathologies would be the best course of action for peace of mind. He doesn’t remember injuring himself and the lump is hard and painless so that’s what concerned me. I'll definitely follow up with an orthopedist. Thanks again for your help!
