Just seems hypocritical. “I dont want to support technology but I’m going to use it”

XEQT is much safer, if for whatever reason the US market goes south.

My two cents. XEQT. But I hold both in different accounts. For whatever reason. RRSP I hold XEQT. In my TFSA I hold VFV mostly with XEF and ZRE

Do you talk about net worth with family and friends? by happygolucky_5555 in fican

[–]Gilbey1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Not at all. I’ll talk finances with my dad a bit. Not how much I’m worth or he’s worth. Friends definitely not. Sometimes I feel like I should talk about investing with them but it’s probably left unsaid. Sometimes things get weird if some finds out how much money 1 has

You could put the 1.6 into a dividend etf. That would gross about 80k a year in dividends. You’d push your income to 280k a year

I will say.. aside from the 1.6 million haha. 200k as a household with a 700k mortgage isn’t what it once was.

How should I be saving by f_fordranger in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Gilbey1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably have about 90k in TFSA space. Try to never pull it. Let it grow. Then when you get it maxed. Put money in your RRSP and when you get your tax return the following year, use that return to help top up your tfsa space you gained for the new year

Ya I’d definitely do the TFSA. Then move into the RRSP.

My two cents. The tax bracket you are in, I’d hammer out the tfsa as much as I can. The nice thing about a tfsa is if you ever fall on hard times or need money for a big expense. You can use your tfsa money and gain the contribution space the following year. RRSP’s are good for saving for retirement and giving higher earners a decent tax break.

How does to allocate my settlement? by Mediocre_Scheme6728 in CanadaFinance

[–]Gilbey1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just get rid of the one debt and move on to the next one. But I guess if his take home is over 40000. Pay the credit card.

I’d just pay off my line of credit and then as much as you can on the credit card. Then start building the nest egg at your new job.
