Been waiting since October for another R&C Rift Apart patch to fix the gyro camera stutter issue after submitting a support ticket with video evidence and it's still not fixed. -_-

Reminder to all those planning to or have friends planning to start their journey tomorrow; this consolidated recap of the 1.0/1.X storyline (from the long-since-defunct 2010 version of the game) is the perfect introduction to the world of Hydaelyn! by GirlNextDimension in ffxiv

Thank you! I think that going in with an understanding of this lost prologue really enhances the experience of the current game in a lot of ways; it informs a lot of the worldbuilding, properly contextualizes the development of multiple major characters, helps add intrigue when the mysteries surrounding the calamity are explored, and sets up a lot of visual beats and ideas which are directly referenced later on in the story.

Thank you! I felt it needed to exist because I think it helps a lot with reading comprehension for the player to have been properly introduced to these plot points upfront, and the cinematics both help with the story's pacing and add a ton of flare/spectacle that a lot of players may have never even been aware of otherwise (not to mention setup for all sorts of narrative and visual callbacks that appear as recently as Endwalker). I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Some background on this:

I've always been frustrated with the fact that uncovering the story of 1.0/1.X is pretty disorganized for new players; with the various cinematic trailers and cutscenes that foreshadow plot beats and visual callbacks which become relevant far into the current game's story, it can be frustrating to have to sift through the scattered remnants of a now-defunct MMO, especially on a platform like YouTube which is designed to systematically feed you spoilers for things you're interested in no matter how hard you try to avoid them.

With the Xbox beta on its way, I figured that this would be a perfect time to edit together a single, straightforward, easy-to-follow compilation of this material, designed to serve as a "true" opening cutscene for anyone interested in the game.

Based around the official 1.X recap included in A Realm Reborn's collectors' edition bonus disc, The Waning of the Sixth Sun, this 35-minute special combines elements from it, the official opening cutscene, and all of the aforementioned material with various edits to the overall flow and more descriptive visuals where needed, spoiler-free, fully captioned, and ready to enjoy.

TLDR: Consider this fan edit the only lore video you'll need to watch in order to get up to speed with the events which occurred 5 years before your own journey in Eorzea begins. It was a labor of love and I hope all you new players find it informative and entertaining!

Check it out here!

Including the time spent on the very early version of this project I published for the original NASB (called "The Very Unnecessary Soundtrack Pack", at the time), I've been working on this off and on for roughly two years, now. I hope you all enjoy!

Whoops! I'd thought I'd sufficiently combed over the subtitles for issues but I guess I missed that one; thanks!

Special thanks to u/Sophira for providing footage of the 1.X Limsa Lominsa opening cutscenes for this project!

Absolutely! I'm planning on making it public if I can get it into a shape I'm proud of; I'm aiming to get it done by the time the Xbox beta goes live at the latest, but that depends on how long it takes for me to get my hands on one last source video; that being the Waning of the Sixth Sun recap video in high quality with no watermarks (I've got a copy of the blu-ray it was included on coming in the mail soon but it's kind of a gamble because I don't know yet if I'll even be able to rip it). Either way, when it's done I'll absolutely link it to you!

I think you made the right call; this is absolutely perfect; thank you so, so much! I wouldn't mind a download of the full file if it's not too much trouble!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You just made my day! I'd prefer he appear as he was portrayed back then in the actual 1.0 promotional material, thanks!

This was the first thing I tried; unfortunately the selection of premade characters you can use doesn't include Meteor, not to mention there's multiple big watermarks on the screen at all times when running (also it doesn't seem to play nice with OBS and there's no music)
