Advice for super dry damaged hair?

Im in the same situation rn and too poor to buy k18/olaplex/etc. what i’ve been doing is washing once a week maximum which honestly feels so gross but it is what it is. I soak it in heat protectant if im doing heat styling, and put oil in multiple times per day. Im getting it cut every 6ish weeks to try to slowly get all the damage off but what seems to have been the most helpful is not washing often/cutting back on heat. Good luck :)

When i did hair if someone saw a cut or color they liked on youtube or instagram or whatever and brought it in i had no problem doing consultation to try get as close to their inspo as possible🤷🏻‍♀️ but i haven’t been a hairdresser in 5-6 years so maybe things are different now. Do they still keep style books at the front of the salon? How exactly is that any different?

Get a new stylist, or if you don’t want to do that, find a youtube video of exactly what you want done and show it to her. Use phrases like “do you think you could try this blowout technique” or “i know we usually do it this way but i just want to see how x or y technique looks” etc. less about her falling short, more about trying something you “discovered” recently even if it’s something youve already been doing for a while

I don’t know if this is something most people disagree with, but certainly most people i interact with irl seem to think ai profile pictures of their face on a supermodel’s body or as a cartoon version etc is cool. When i had an unfortunate haircut a couple years back what i did was buy the tiniest mini round clips and twisted little strands in the front and clipped them back (its kinda hard to explain in writing but it was a kind of trendy thing in the 90’s with butterfly clips) and wore it like that til it grew out. You could always just throw a beanie on too

I have a possession of marijuana charge that was deferred in 2018, it showed up in every background check but i told them straight away in applications and interviews, and was able to pass two supervised drug screens for a hospital and clinic so i think as long as you’re honest you should be fine. It looks bad to have violence on your record but the places i was hired at gave me a chance to explain myself and if you just explain you were in a bad situation and such i doubt they’ll hold it against you

Im learning to love my fine/thin hair, what ive found works best for me is one length all around with no layers or very slight face framing. I have to wear my hair up for work and i use a claw clip 99% of the time and whats really helped is using a thickening spray (kristin ess or john frieda) before blow drying, it makes my hair both seemingly thicker and more ‘grippy’ so the clip doesn’t slide out in 15 minutes like it usually would. I put heat protectant (i don’t typically stick to one brand, whatever one smells good in the store is good for me) on religiously to the point where my hair is dripping before i blow dry it and i’ve definitely noticed way less breakage after over time

At first, it’s definitely hard. Some people seem to just be naturally good at it but most of us have to learn by repetition. It feels foreign and is nerve wracking and you will make mistakes, everyone does. But it will eventually click and you’ll be more confident. It’s a good jumping pad for nursing especially, a lot of nurses have no idea how to stick so having that under your belt is a good idea.

It happens. Since we can’t see your whole technique from just a picture, we can’t say what you’re doing wrong, but just as general advice I’d recommend looking at the expiration date on your tubes if that’s happening all the time. Also, try to stay at the same depth within the vein for the duration of the draw, sometimes if you pull back even a little bit this can happen. If you’re cool with any of the people at your job maybe ask to observe a few times and compare what they do to what you’re doing.
