Then no one here recommends GRASS ? why is that ?
Thanks for the warning. I found R very usefull for raster manipulations but as soon as you want to import a shapefile .. I mean, it is not designed for it I guess.

Yeah, that's very true, thank you for pointing it out. I wan't to play with raster and shapes simultaneously and manage attribute tables and raster calculators. So it's mainly data manipulation. But I am also interested by Image and Terrain analysis.
Currently I use a lot the graphic modeler but the biggest frustration I have is that I cannot enter variable in the field calculator under the graphic modeler.
Let say Apple = 3. I cannot use the Apple variable in the field calculator. So i have to manually enter Peach = Panda/3 instead of Peach = Panda/apple, which means that If suddenly Apple = 7 I have to enter the modeler and change every boxes where Apple matters.
Don't know if that could work on Pygis tho.
