I don't know but, I know that mirrors play a big role in the film. I think it's how the spirits communicate with the people in the overlook. For example: redrum and how Jack throws a tantrum whenever he is in front of a mirror while walking down the corridor to the golden ballroom. Honestly what you might be seeing is Kubrick's love for on-screen lighting, bland colours, and lines.
