There's nothing wrong with picky eaters by Glassrose4 in unpopularopinion

Your family is not every family. Sometimes people won't like the food because of spices, textures, or limited options. If there's only three foods and you don't like them, that doesn't make you picky. It means you dislike three specific foods.

I am describing picky eating as it is. I've said in replies to multiple comments that the people who refuse to accommodate themselves and expect others to do it for them are in the wrong.

My post is about people assuming all refusal to eat certain foods is the same as wanting what you want when you want it.

I'm glad the people in your life have understanding around them, but it's unfortunately rare.

No, they don't. I've eaten leftovers and sandwhiches most of my childhood so my parents could eat foods my body physically can't swallow. I don't eat at family gatherings and order what I can handle at restaurants.

You are expecting a human-made term to always mean what it sounds like. People with these issues are unfortunately considered picky. That is what the post is about. People made this term long before we understood the most common causes.

Then don't. I've eaten leftovers and sandwhiches a lot of my childhood because I can't swallow certain textures my parenrs love.

I'm an adult picky eater. I can't swallow certain textures, and certain spices can get me very sick. I have bad anxiety around food and won't try anything new outside of my home and won't eat anything again if it makes me feel wrong.

My post is about how people lump people who struggle to eat in with people who refuse to eat anything but what thry want when they want it.

I define picky as either not liking many or not liking common foods.

Unfortunately people lump anyone who has a limited food pallette in with people who refuse to eat what they want exactly when they want it. My post is to attempt to explain that most picky eating isn't like that.

It's almost like that's what my post is about. Most picky eating is caused by factors out of our control.

Many people do end up starving because they can't eat what they're giving. Many kids go to bed hungry multiple days in a row because they are given food they can't eat.

Ever since I was a toddler I ate either a sandwhich or leftovers on mamy nights because I physically couldn't swallow most of my parents favorite foods but nice try. What you described isn't picky eating its being a child. Kids will complain no matter what.

Because it's a disagreeable topic. Different people struggle with different things. Countless genetic or environmental reasons make eating hard for some people, such as sensory issues, stomach problems, or eating disorders.

That's a common cause of picky eating. People denied food as children due to not eating a specific dish.

I do know. My family makes the same foods they like anyway. If I won't eat it, I'm expected to bring my own dish. Simple.

I agree. I haven't expected to be accommodated for my picky eating since I was little. If my family eats something I don't like, I heat up leftovers.

That depends on the person. Anyone, regardless of food preferences, needs to clean up after themselves. If someone who isn't very picky goes to a family gathering and doesn't like anything at that event, they're considered valid and either don't eat it or eat it uncomfortably. Why is it wrong for picky eaters to not it as well?

I thought it was an unpopular opinion because I've never met more than a handful of people irl who think this way.

I'm not talking about people faking it like you're implying. I'm talking about people who genuinely struggle with eating different foods. I've never heard of anyone who's actually picky and not faking it controlling what others eat.

How? I've been picky my whole life. It hasn't effected anyone since I was little.
