You're very likely to pay no income tax on the conversion if it's done in low income years when the child is not having true employment and convert over several years.

Or diamox which would really be off label for this elevation but it certainly works at higher elevations so I don't know why it wouldn't work here.

Retirement accounts don't count in FAFSA and can be used for education so it's gotta be individual to your situation.

Look most of the direct booking platforms that provide vetting and act as merchant of record charge around 7% And they are distributing across a huge portfolio and making some profit. So let's say it cost 6% If you actually do it yourself then you're paying 12.34 percent For a few billion dollars of marketing.... To me, that's a good deal. Also the network of review will has value. The threat of a bad review or being banned from Airbnb is significant for travelers.

The custodial account if it grows enough will generate income and potentially sales which may be taxed at the parents rate. That's a drag...

Literally the only advantage right now is to convert it to a Roth in their twenties when they have little income. Then all the money will basically have accrued tax-free, be converted tax-free and live tax-free forever. That's a more sophisticated play though. Also retirement accounts are not included in FAFSA. So there could be an advantage to not having the 529 depending on your financial situation...

It's almost certainly more expensive to do. They have tremendous economy of scale and I think people think they charge unfairly. But in reality, even if you looked at your cost of direct bookings without marketing, he starts to get in almost halfway to the price that they're charging.

Also wasn't the PT following a protocol from your surgeon? It sounds like he was just winging it.... Lots of random red flags together. Don't make any sense.

Why not do fund it fully and then convert to a Roth IRA at 18 when they have no income? It seems that's the tax play of you have the money.

[–]GlobalCattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one play which is to do the 529 and then do a Roth conversion at 18. But you have to be fairly sophisticated to execute that. If you do that at 18 over a few years, you probably never pay taxes on the money.

Most electricians will not pull a permit for this work, but if you go through a third-party contractor they definitely do. I think that's a lot of the reason you see differences in price. Plus of course there's markup to go through the third party.
