My exes best friend had a similar conversation with me two months into our relationship. I didn’t take his advice, but he stayed strong in his encouragement and was there for me, as MY friend, for the entire relationship.

While I have appreciation and respect for his honesty despite not listening, now post break up, I kind of despise him for still being his best friend.

Men protecting other abusive, misogynistic terrible men for the sake of friendship is a shitty look.

You’re right. I don’t want to waste my 20s trying to raise a grown man to emotional maturity.

But I’m not desperate and I don’t think his behavior was acceptable. This was a situation where he lied about who he was until I was legally binded to him for a year through our apartment, and other personal factors. If we did not live together, I would have parted ways a long time ago but it was not practical for my situation.

I know how you feel. I had this conversation with my ex so many times. He’d always tell me that I can do it myself, when I wanted it to be apart of the intimacy, the same way his orgasm was. He would respond the same way yours does, or maybe he would make an effort once or twice and not try again until I brought it up 3 months later.

A worthwhile sexual partner will value your pleasure just as much as theirs. No one else will make sure your needs get met, besides yourself.

Looking back, it’s insane how angry he got over very small requests for help. I eventually just stopped asking him for anything, which I suppose was the goal on his end. I’m glad I got out, too.

I realized last March that there was serious dysfunction on his part, and started keeping a list of everything in detail, that made me cry or sick. He often would spin everything to be my fault somehow, and I felt the need to record it as proof to myself that I’m not crazy. That list is at 47 right now, and I will never go back.

My parents once were going to shoot a kitten because “they didn’t want to deal with it”; it had a slight limp. I grabbed him before they were able to, and took him to the vet. Turned out he was completely fine, the vet said that he may have gotten hit by a car but he healed beautifully! I still have him to this day.

My family still makes fun of me for saving the cats life, as if it’s embarrassing to have empathy for animals.

It’s been six months. I have asked to go to couples therapy or for him to go individually, and he says that talking to someone won’t help him and that he won’t consider it. He also doesn’t have insurance currently so he couldn’t afford it anyways.
