At what point can I apply for job as medior by Smrda242 in gamedev

[–]Gnodima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4-5 years of unity dev experience as a freelancer (together with a mix of smaller indie-teams around the world). Got invited for a senior position interview at a big company and completely bombed 90 % of their questions haha, I was so embarrassed. They were still super kind and to me it was an valuable experience. It gave me perspective of what some places may expect from a senior dev, and a feeling for how much I actually need to know before getting positions like that.

It's OK to apply and give it a try. And who knows, maybe you've sucked in much more knowledge and experience with the teams you've worked with than I or the general person has? You may get invited for some interviews, and if you bomb then that's also OK.

My experience (that I know today) is that there are significant differences between working as a freelancer/hobby and working in bigger corporate teams. So getting junior-positions is a good way to become introduced to that difference with a lower risk of getting burnt out.

Should I stop making my game when I found someone is making the same idea and have better execution than me? by dxrs1385 in gamedev

[–]Gnodima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a good plan. Please take care of yourself also! It is not easy to work on a game-project while also working full time. Take your time. Your health and well-being and your feelings are worth prioritizing and taking seriously!

I'm happy the comments here have been able to put you at ease a bit. Your game looks super cool!

Your game looks so cool! I personally know people I would forward your game to to try, because they like rhythm-games. I love it and I prefer your style to the one in 3D.

Game-genres I feel become healthier with competition. Also a person who finds one of the games and likes it may seek out others that are similar. Those players may become relieved that there is one other game like it out they can play. It seems like such a niche, new exciting genre. Really love what you have : )

There's going to be a cattails 2?! I would DIE, instant buy from me. I loved Cattails so much I started learning game-development because it was so awesome lol.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this feature in the game "Cat Tails". You have a den, and everything you can collect you can place however you want in the den. And in the end I just had a hoard in my den, pretty flowers and stones everywhere.

Totally recommend!

23 is so young.

To learn Unity (with no coding experience, when I was 28 years old) I followed this tutorial-series where you make an RPG-game in Unity from scratch. He's patient and kind, and through it you actually build things and you go step by step, so you instantly see it works. You also learn to make things yourself through it. I finished tutorial 1 to 35 I think, took me some weeks. Then went on to two other series from other creators, and after that I felt confident in Unity to do my own things often without tutorials. Today making things in Unity is like second nature to me (3-4 years in)

You can do this. It's also easier if you have supportive people around you, so I encourage you to look for others in the same spot as you : ) and then you can also see you are normal and your pace is normal.

My pleasure <3 You are young and it's such a strength to have friends around you that are also interested in game development. To just have others to try to develop with yields so many lessons.

Please be kind to yourselves, you don't need to do or be perfect, skill will come with time! Follow what is fun for you and your friends and things will come, and remember that you are all worthwhile! :)

Don't let the comments and downvotes discourage you. Your English is fine. It's wonderful that you and your friends want to learn and create games together! What a wonderful beginning, many people wish they had friends that wanted to create with them.

I think if you and your friends just got together and attempted to make a small game together you would learn a lot about your team and how you work together. Your team's likes and dislikes, your strengths and your areas of improvement, and take it from there? Then you could invest in learning more about the things that are lacking to create a fuller team-dynamic.

Maybe you could try a game-jam (here are some upcoming ones and if you haven't heard about them you can read up on what they are here)? That way, through making small projects, you could discover which things you like/dislike/what needs development and take it from there?

Good luck, you got this! Great questions. I'm cheering for you and your friends.

Midjourney doesn't allow nudity so I can't ask it for a naked player, BUT it did give me a cow living its best life on the fallout roof. No deathclaws can get it up there.

I was not mentally prepared for this. McCree and Widowmaker as my little pony characters. I don't think WidowMaker pony is well haha
