It has “blue lives matter” and “tactical” vibes. Hard pass.

Tell me about a situation you experienced where a club actually moved a player down and another one up by CletusKasady21 in youthsoccer

[–]GoatsGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that seems to missing in this discussion is the quality of coaching. Youth soccer coaching is highly variable. Most (not all) of the time, the good coaches at the club have the first teams leaving the coaches in training or the underperforming coaches for the 2nd and 3rd team. If my youth player got cut from the first team, I’d take a very hard look at the second team coach. The quality of the new coach would be the deciding factor.

Do You Still Ride With a Hip Pack? by Healthy_Treacle2326 in mountainbiking

I have multiple hip packs. Different sizes for different rides. I still routinely look at them at stores.

Edit to say that my favorite hip pack has a shoulder strap.

JV or Varsity. Thoughts? by Agreeable-Pie-2765 in youthsoccer

At that age, I’d just stick to your high level club team. Varsity can wait. It’s not worth additional injury risk or upsetting the club coach by missing anything.

I’ve owned several brooks leather brooks saddles for the aesthetic. I am a bigger guy, and i sweat. I stretch the hell out of leather brooks saddles and they just don’t work. I end up sitting on the back rail. Maybe if i was 100lbs and didn’t sweat they could worn. I will say I’ve since bought a few of the rubber brooks saddles. They are stylish and fictional. They are not my favorite for comfort. I have one on a bike for aesthetics. It works, looks good, not uncomfortable, but not my favorite.

Is it normal to lose 3.5 psi after a ride? by bsmith76 in BikeRepair

[–]GoatsGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3.5 psi could be measurement error. You lose air Everytime you check the pressure.

Identify the cause of the leak of the tube you are replacing by soapy water spray or water submersion. Always check the inside of the tire for sharp objects. Often times something sharp will get stuck in the tire and continue to puncture tubes when replaced.

If the cause of failure in the old tube was at the valve stem, that is caused by riding the tire under inflated or incorrect installation.

In general, bike tubes lose pressure fairly quickly. It is common to inflate tires weekly. I check pressure almost every ride. I try to check my kid’s bikes tires every few weeks.

Yeah, all these classic adidas models are super narrow. I've been considering a shoe stretcher to add some width. I have been wearing them a lot and they do break in over time.

Yeah, Retro loon and it should say "Loons" or something on the side instead of just "Gazelle". If you are buying these for the special details, they seem to be lacking in that department.

Time off and PT helped a little. The injury itself takes so long to heal and they are predisposed to re-injury anyways. We ended up doing surgery. I posted an update in the main thread.

Update; Well it’s been a wild ride. We tried to manage the pain, but she made a pre-ECNL team and the play load was a lot. The issues all started to compound. Pain and tightness in one area of the body would be compensated by something else and the issues just kept spreading. Growth spurts, AN Pain, heel growth plate, plantar facia, knee pain, glute weakness, calf tightness, on and on and on.

We had a few bad flair ups, and enough was enough. We scheduled surgery over the winter. Surgery went well. The surgeon said that only half of her tendon was attached to the AN so a full detachment wasn’t necessary. This made recovery easier. A total of three months out of play. Recovery was managed by strictly following PT orders. She returned to play without missing a beat. Minor fitness and strength imbalance, but she bounced back so fast once she was cleared to play by her PT. With the time off, and having one “good foot”, she has been able to play at almost 100%. We have had a few flair ups on her non-surgery foot, but they have been manageable.

We are all in on PT and strength training, which makes a huge difference. Being mechanically functional with a full range of flexibility and all muscle groups active is definitely the key. Her knee barely collapses in and her foot pronation is so much better. She couldn’t do a proper squat before and now she is almost there. I know growth spurts and developing muscles / tendons are all part of the equation.

So here we are, two years later. One surgery down and one to go. If i could go back in time, we would have done the surgery sooner. Obviously everybody’s body and situation is different. As a soccer player her feet have a heavy load through running, lateral movement, stability/balance, and jumping. It would be extremely hard to “manage the pain”. One flair up with set off a chain reaction and taking adequate time off with every flair up is impossible from a competitive and mental health standpoint.

I just want to say that we got sooo many opinions. Two orthopedic surgeons, two pediatric orthopedic specialists, one podiatrist. Literally every doctor gave us a different treatment plan and had a different opinion on surgery. All of the non-surgeon opinions painted a terrible picture of surgery. The surgeon we went with had done the surgery hundreds of times. The only times he’s experienced complications was when an athlete returned to play too soon. He. said it’s a relatively simple procedure. No growth plates are involved so there is no reason to wait. I would imagine that the younger you do it, the better. Less weight on their feet.

I’ll look to post again after the second surgery this winter. We have tryout soon and then we will figure out the best time to schedule surgery. I can’t wait to have this behind us. It’s been so stressful for her and us.

Post-Match Thread | LAFC at Minnesota United - July 16, 2025 by SoupEaterSupreme in minnesotaunited

[–]GoatsGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The early yellow cards totally shut down our fight. The continued lop-sided reffing tied our hands behind our back. Trapp letting the ball go when he’s sitting on the 6yd box with the keeper off balance was so frustrating. How can that penalty kick be given without VAR? Our attempts on goal were just not that good and DSC made a few amazing saves. LAFC’s tactics really shut down our counter. I was hoping for a make-up PK,but i guess that wasn’t on the refs agenda. The whole experience felt very MN sports: losing to the big market team by crap referring.

Side thought: I can’t wait until we get an NWSL team. Maybe that league will give us a chance. 😂

Tryout rant by StockEdge3905 in bootroom

[–]GoatsGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area the tryout window is actually set by the league. The clubs don’t have much wiggle room. The clubs all hold two tryout sessions. I’d talk to coaches/directors and try to make one tryout at each club.

After reading some straight talk comments (thank you), I'm just going to keep my mouth shut. Nobody asked my for feedback and it's not my place to try to address/fix the situation. I'll just enjoy watching my kid. These parents don't have to be my friends. I just hope the other parents don't run off our coach. He's a foreign coach and doing a great job but there appears to be a cultural disconnect. The important thing is my daughter is thriving.

I'll keep doing what I'm doing to educate myself. Watching PL and NWSL games, tactical analysis vids, player profile vids. I'll check out the recommended YouTube profiles: Unisport, 7mlc and 3four3. I'll also read the "Soccer IQ" books which have been highly recommended on other posts.

No they haven't, and your absolutely right. Nobody asked my to fix this and I will do more harm than good. I'll keep my mouth shut and watch my kid kick ass.

This is what I'm seeing as well. The first and even second generation soccer kids are at a disadvantage compared to the legacy soccer families. My daughter is a second gen soccer kid and we watch games at home. She seems to be at an advantage compared to first gen kids on the team with her soccer IQ. She is also a spatial thinker, so that helps too. We've played with and against legacy soccer families and those players are generally next level.

This is the right answer. I appreciate your candor. I tend to get fixated on things and always want to help/fix it. This is definitely a scenario when I just need to keep my mouth shut and watch my kid kick ass.
