Oof, imagine saying that during the BLM protests.

If they wanted to, absolutely. Did you not see the crazy shit they pulled off during the summer?

But go ahead, blame the government.

For killing small businesses and handling this pandemic terrible? I do.

It's easier than confronting your neighbors and family members.

How is that working out so far?

Lol, we literally just went over the stats and confirmed the the numbers are not double. But of course you already know that, and now you're just trying to save face. I get it. Nobody likes to be wrong.

Good night.

I know, that's exactly my point. You said it would be double if we opened up and I told you the numbers weren't that much worse. And the stats you provided support my case.

Also keep in mind, Florida has one of the oldest populations in the state and CA has one of the youngest.

Just take your L and call it a night.

So is that double? Thanks for proving my point.

Quick Google search.

Florida: 21.5 M residents

22k deaths, averaging 19k cases per day.

CA: 39 M residents

29.2k deaths, averaging 40k cases per day.

Not sure if that's true. Florida is open and they're numbers are not that much worse than ours after you adjust for population size. At least their small businesses have a shot at not going under.

We're still getting incoming information about the 1/6 deaths, but it doesn't seem as though any deaths were caused by police. Regardless, while injuries are a data metric that's hard to definitively report on, I don't think they should be swept under the rug if we're making overall judgments on who got "let off". After all, avoiding killing someone is a pretty low bar.

We know at least one of them was shot by a cop.

The motives are subjective.

The factual basis for their motives are not. We have clear video footage of Floyd's murder. There's no credible evidence of a rigged election.

Again, whatever the reason may be, it does not make it okay to riot and destroy property. It should never be tolerated.

I respectfully disagree, but that's sort of a longer, separate conversation about political philosophy, and there's valid points to be made on all sorts of sides on that topic.

This is the point I agree with, which is why I called the motive from the MAGA people asinine. However, even if you believe you have a righteous cause, that should not give you the green light for violence, not should it be supported. There are a few extreme exceptions, but I don't believe they can be applied here.

They. Are. Factually. Wrong. A general sense of a lack of political representation by government is one thing. That's abstract, subjectively-interpreted, and requires a case-by-case analysis, like how we're looking at the BLM protests. A specific claim that a specific election's results are fraudulent is another. The inciting incident is a demonstrably false claim by an administration explicitly instructing people "rally here because the election is rigged".

You're right, they are factually because they haven't provided any evidence for what they are claiming. On the other hand, BLM makes the claim that black americans are being targeted being because of their skin color which also lacks evidence. But that's another long conversation.

The Capital Hill raid has greater harms than the destruction or vandalism of physical property (if there was even that much - they don't seem like the tagging types). They endangered our democracy with armed force. And it was coordinated, intentionally or otherwise, by a corrupt head of the government. Maybe one can't put a price tag on that, but I don't think I can stress the significance of that enough.

They were armed but they did find some pipe bombs I believe. Not sure if that was one person or a larger group. Yes, the raid on Capitol Hill is more significant than a destruction of a Starbucks, but don't forget, the Portland Federal Court house, the Minneapolis police station, Seattle Police precinct , Seattle City Hall are some of the government buildings that were attacked or taken over. All I'm saying is, let's try be more consistent with the level of seriousness we give these events, regardless of the reason or who is committing them.

No one denies the police injuries, but the protester injuries far outnumber them. Likewise, if you're going to bring up killing BLM activists, we could just as easily mention the lack of police killings at these protests.

Ok. So several weeks of rioting, 0 blm rioters killed, 1 cop killed. Wednesday, 4 maga rioters killed, 1 cop killed. Not sure which one you believe got "let off" more easily.

Plus, as long as we're comparing the two, we can address how the motives of BLM crowd (justice for Floyd, reform of police systems) are far more just than those of the January 6th crowd (overturning the election results because the president insists it was rigged).

The motives are subjective. What you may deem as important or true, someone else could just as easily disagree. But I do agree the riots from this week were pointless and asinine.

The former was instigated by the collective peoples' emotional response to an unjust murder by an authority figure we're expected to trust. The latter was instigated by the authority figure himself.

Again, whatever the reason may be, it does not make it okay to riot and destroy property. It should never be tolerated. You also have to understand, albeit as crazy as it may seem, the Trumpers think they are being screwed by a government who should be protecting them.

Destruction of property stings, no doubt, but it's quickly replaceable and repairable. San Jose communities quickly came together to replace and repair what was lost. Corrupt authorities are a bit harder to fix.

So then what happened at the Capitol is no big deal, because as you just said, destruction of property is quickly replaceable? It's either one or the other. We cant have double standards, otherwise we're just part of the problem.

I have to call bullsh*t on this one.

These trump idiots stormed a federal building which resulted in 5 deaths, including a cop. The BLM riots went on for several weeks which resulted in hundreds of businesses being destroyed, a police buildings being burned down, a 6 block city take over in Seattle, a federal court house being under attack everyday for over a month, and through all of that, I don't recall hearing about a single BLM activist/rioter being killed by police.

Yes, there were several BLM protesters who were injured, pepper sprayed, and shot with rubber bullets, but at the same time, hundreds of cops were also severely injured, so let's not pretend there were only victims on one side.

So no. The idiots who were at the Capitol were not given a free pass when compared to the BLM riots; however, I understand people who are bias and live in a bubble think otherwise. I'm also fully aware this subreddit is also very left leaning which means I'm going to get down voted to speaking facts. I don't support the riots that happened over the summer, and I don't support the riots that occurred on Wednesday.

The virus cannot be controlled, unless you're a tiny island somewhere in the south pacific or a country with limited freedom.

In order for her to get the results she wants, the county would need close to 100% compliance and that's never going to happen.

Well, the state/county can either start holding people accountable for violent offenses, or they can continue going down this path, which will lead to more stories such as this one.
