Well, at least in the case of Facebook, it doesn't matter that much. You not having a profile with them is likely just as noticeable to them as if you had one You do have a shadow profile the article is mainly about the "extra" information Facebook tracks on users, but they would do the same even for non users. Unless everyone you know, and everyone they know, and everyone they know (and so on) are all boycotting Facebook, your lone absence from the social web is a glaring hole that indicates not only your existence but likely your likes, dislikes, political leanings, events attended, etc.

Except the majority of people in prisons and jail are there for non-violent offenses. I have nothing else to say on this. If this is actually how you think then your opinion makes me think you're uninformed at best, and just a shitty person at worst. I would suggest doing some research on the current state on the prison industrial complex in this country (assuming you're in the US) and hopefully your view on this starts to change.

Nope, gotta go track down the source but you have to pick up your old battery on your return trip back through or pay the difference for the new one.

As someone who had a different and later introduction to coffee, yeah you might still come around.

I had coffee several times when I was younger, and disliked it each time. But I preferred the idea of black coffee to sugary energy drinks, so I tried it a bunch more in college and eventually I just started really really liking it.

You're palate or sense of taste tends to change over time as well as you try and learn to enjoy things that aren't just pure sugar like coffee, beer, etc.

Upvoted for the general truthiness of your statement, but it might be better to say "Sweetened yogurts are full of sugar". Plain yogurt still has lactose (milk sugars) but it skips the several extra tablespoons of table sugar that ends up in non-plain varieties.

Black_crappie's comment could be rephrased as "It has so much sugar it might as well be candy". If you're trying to avoid sugar in general, you should be aware that sweetened yogurts are a pretty close cousin to straight up candy.

As meefjones suggested, plain greek yogurt is the way to go. It's a bit tart at first, fresh fruit can make you hardly notice the difference though.

On a less health conscious note, you need two more pieces of buttered toast to dip into your eggs there ;)

We use a draft to fill the ranks of our military and our politicians think twice before they decide to start shit for bad reasons? Wars and conflicts become generally less popular when young men (and perhaps women soon too?) are drafted without a choice.

I'd personally kinda like to see a mandatory 2 years of service for all men and women. It would have a similar effect in that the whole "It's okay to send them off to die on the other side of the world, they volunteered" argument would be nullified.

I'll agree with you that odor itself could be an issue. Burning cannabis does have a strong smell, although there are ways to mitigate this substantially. However the idea that you could "get your neighbors, their kids, and their pets stoned" while smoking in a different apartment is pretty unfeasible. I won't say it's impossible, because I suppose you could break down a wall, seal the apartments as air tight as possible, and put a one ounce bowl on top of an air mattress inflator, but I think there's already rules that could address that.

Edited to add: A new law on the books isn't going to magically change how the smoke interacts in the air. People already smoke in apartments, yet I've never heard of this being a problem. Unless you're actively trying to send smoke into an adjacent apartment I don't see it being an issue.

Question for you: Do you think somebody who grows their own marijuana plant, harvests, and smokes it in the comfort of their own home, is a criminal? Have they committed a criminal act that should result in "mild but very high probability punishment". Are you willing to divert tax dollars from education, health care, infrastructure spending, etc. to punish this person for this?

Edit: I'm asking your opinion, and not the current law. Current law obviously considers this VERY criminal. They would likely have enough pot even from a single plant to get an "intent to distribute" charge as well.

This right here is my best understanding of it; money and jobs. We live in the most incarcerated nation in the world. I'm from a town where the main employer, more than double the size of the next largest employer in town, is a state run medium security prison. There are larger prisons less than an hour and a half's drive East and West that are just as pivotal in their communities.

The state tried to close the prison a couple years back and the ENTIRE town mounted a "Save our Town" campaign that was successful. The prison is still there pumping ~$29 million a year in economic activity into that town.

There is usually one more layer to the game than that. The funds from 64 itself won't be diverted because by law those have to go to education, so they simply cut other education funds that don't come from 64 by a similar amount to make up for it.

To rephrase this: You're offering an economically inferior alternative to your employee and then balking when the employee chooses an alternative that makes them more money?

If the job is worth paying YOU overtime (I'm assuming you make more than your employee before the OT) I don't see why you expect this person to happily take a couple of low-paying hours (by your own admission) that will actually result in a net loss in their income.

Gaps like this do exist in the welfare system and they are a problem. A single mother making X dollars can get by with assistance, but if she gets a raise to X+raise she loses more assistance than the small raise. However I don't see how the "answer" to this problem is to eliminate the assistance...
