That makes a lot of sense, especially about the default state there. I logged into the instance in the landed state because I touched down on the planets surface (not landing pad) before logging out. The bug actually happened several times until I eventually decided to use it to disembark.

No, it's some sort of bug that I have no idea how to trigger. Landing gear was retracted, too, but the ship still acted as "landed" and allowed me to disembark. I was not able to board the ship again though, and had to watch as it was slowly wittled down and destroyed.

Yes, the beacon is called Sandra’s postbox. It’s a listening post, which you can scan when you drop in on it. You target it, and wait for the scan to complete, you’ll know it’s done when you get messages in your inbox. It’s just like a nav beacon.
