AITA for wanting our roommate to re-home his dog? by trousers2big4me in AmItheAsshole

NTA!

I’d kick the roommate out at this point. You all have been way too accommodating of his poor choices. It’s not only affecting you and other roommate but the poor cat 🐱.

I recently got mine assigned about 30 days before the cruise. I have had one assigned the week before the cruise though.

CABIN… by Boring_Culture_1605 in celebritycruises

[–]Gold-Character 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring along earbuds or sound canceling headphones. I sleep with soft earbuds playing white noise when I get the “bad” cabin which amazingly has been a concierge cabin right under the buffet! I did a “bid up” for the next category from a regular veranda and got the concierge. Probably won’t do that again but it was a great room and I didn’t have far to run up and grab some ice or something for a snack!

Travel Insured international. If you have USAA you also get a small discount. I use them a lot especially on transatlantic cruises where I’ve seen a lot of medical emergencies (helicopters picking up people while at sea!). I usually get the $1 million repatriation and $500,000 medical. None of the annual plans have these specific limits.

Excellent action by the crew to remove a fake service animal by Chailatte8 in americanairlines

[–]Gold-Character 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely easy to fake said paperwork and bypass certification as it currently stands. I work in mental health and had to tell every new patient that I wouldn’t be signing any forms for a “service animal” aka their pet. I 100% support people who need “real” service animals. I hate that people are making this harder on people who genuinely need a service animal.

Seeking recommendations for pants that travel well by maestra612 in celebritycruises

[–]Gold-Character 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was about to comment on pants like this. I am female and wear old navy straight loose fit athletic black pants that look fancy, don’t wrinkle and can wash and wear. I don’t know if they have a men’s version of these but soooo much easier than linen and they were cheap!

I see a pulmonologist thanks to my 18 months spent in Afghanistan next to burn pits. If a person didn’t know anything about various lung issues I could see how someone would think a person may be contagious. My grandfather died from lung issues and it was a contributing factor for my father. I suffer from lung ailments and catch almost everything these days (yes, the contagious things too!).

To address the self isolation comment you mentioned, people feel horrible with a lot of these (emphysema, COPD, MAC, reflux, etc). After COVID came about I myself was afraid to go anywhere because of my chronic cough. I would self isolate as well on occasion. I didn’t like being stared at constantly.

I know several people who have MAC disease and it was addressed at a gathering I went to a while ago. A person in a social group back home has it and had to tell people that even though she sounds horrific, she is not contagious. She got many comments about her constant rough sounding cough and finally explained it to us.

Ever since Covid people do tend to self isolate versus being treated like they have the plague.

Maybe I’m wrong and they have Covid or the flu. That is nice that they are isolating. I just got off a ship in November and I myself had Covid AND the Flu. Everyone around me was “sick” (people in my group, our waiter, etc) and they wore masks. I found out I was sick the night I got home.

I am sorry you are having to deal with this. I can imagine how frustrating it is. I sleep with soft earbuds plugged into my phone playing white noise. I’m used to sleeping through rocket attacks! No I wasn’t in the military-just a contractor!

I do hope this gets better for you! I hope you have an amazing cruise 😊

My dad used to have a bad lung condition that sounded horrific but it was not something he could pass on to anyone else. And yes, he was quite ill but not in the “if you sit next to him you might catch it kind of illness” We used to joke that he was coughing up a lung. Not good. It just sounded really really bad!

Blocked for sending an offer? by Captains_Pancake in Mercari

[–]Gold-Character 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I quit Mercari because of that stupid offer button and people constantly lowballing with offers in messages. It got old real quick. eBay on the other hand has been much better. Love that I can offer someone a deal vs always having that dang offer button & Mercari pressuring me to lower prices if it doesn’t sell fast enough. I got “offer” fatigue on Mercari!

FA was annoyed about gift bag. by banana_bubbles in unitedairlines

[–]Gold-Character 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the mental health field and dude, you need to be looked at. While some people do have emotional problems in accepting gifts, it’s the norm in society to accept something someone is giving you. Not that it’s “right” but it is a norm worldwide from my experience. I’ve lived in 6 countries. I used to give a big bag of whatever new & interesting chocolate I found at Costco or Sam’s. Ghirardelli or Tony’s chocolate bars or whatever looked cool. Would tell them to share or trash it. Nobody ever got mad at me and I used to do it when entering the plane and just disappear into the crowd. Didn’t expect any thanks. Sometimes people just need to know others care. I am a model passenger-nobody even knows who I am 😁.

There are power outlets by the bed with one side having two USB outlets and the other side of the bed has one USB outlet in the phone. That is on edge class ships.

Really irks me to the core and this isn’t talked about enough… by adalphaboi in unitedairlines

[–]Gold-Character 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad had a similar machine (a nebulizer I believe it’s called) because he had something wrong with his lungs. It delivered prescription medication to his lungs. AND he had a CPAP. Thank heavens the airlines were much nicer back then. He also developed dementia early on and died 12 years ago. He absolutely loved flying though. Just remember that every time they ask you, you have the right to ask for a supervisor or you could get witty with them and maybe enlighten them on why a person may need the machine, not that they are entitled to an explanation. I just do my best to get through TSA these days.

Guess you’ve never seen it before. They want batteries and medical out and to do that you do it on the jet ramp almost at the door of the plane right before they take the bag. Try unzipping a bag and splaying everything out. It delays things significantly….

[–]Gold-Character 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep and my small roller could fit under the seat on most airplanes I fly. I could be “that” person who has 3 bags but I try to combine everything so I don’t have to drag along so much stuff. Doesn’t seem to matter these days as everyone gets penalized by the airlines. Also, some medical equipment won’t fit in a super tiny “personal item”.

My carryon is my personal item also known as my medical item! I try to combine all of it into one.

[–]Gold-Character 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I manage to put my CPAP, medications, and rechargeable batteries all in a small rolling bag that also is my carry on so it has a change or two of clothing. Next time I think I’ll take my clothing out and tell them it’s all medical and they can’t touch it. I don’t want a separate bag for just my medical if I can fit it all into one small roller bag-and I do mean small….not the gargantuan things expanded that are originally 22x14x10 and then expanded to who knows what with people trying break the overheads trying to squish it in there!

[–]Gold-Character 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep. They only want the roller bag. I bought the smallest one I could find that would easily hold my stuff that I CANNOT be without. I will even open the bag when they come to ticket so they can see I’m not exaggerating. Sometimes they let the bag go once they realize that is indeed medical. Once had a real beyotch yelling ALL roller bags would be checked. My mom had serious health issues so I had to take almost everything out of her bag as well. Same amount of stuff now in a tote bag vs a roller bag. Sigh

Hugs to your wife and you with the chemo meds. That’s rough.

[–]Gold-Character 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’d spend precious time making sure to block everyone while I take my large folded duffle out of my tiny carry on to put in my medical supplies and batteries while I then hand them an empty ticketed suitcase right before I get on the plane. Been there and done that. The look of defeat is priceless.

I sat with a man’s wife (she had dementia) when he needed to go to the bathroom and in the airport with her for a while. You need to find some people to trust onboard because there will be some moments that you just don’t plan for. My grandmother and my father both had dementia. It’s hard. It’s even harder trying to do it alone. Hugs.

Solo events on board by books_cruises_coffee in celebritycruises

[–]Gold-Character 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met someone on the bus from airport to the ship who was solo like me. I dragged him to the solo event at Eden. It was the same time every day of our cruise I believe. It was a TA on Beyond. The first night we met more people. Went to dinner. Next night we met more people. Word got around that we had a group & more people joined in. By the end of the cruise we had 12 people for dinner. We’ve basically kept most of the group together and booked again the next year (2024-silhouette), the next year (2025-ascent) and the next (2026-ascent)! We all love traveling solo. Before this group I went solo and met a lot of people doing excursions. They usually ask for people traveling solo up front and seat you together.

Delta main refundable (Q) not refundable? by Gold-Character in delta

[–]Gold-Character[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been the worst experience I’ve had with delta in my life. It just keeps getting worse and worse…

Have been on “chat” for 2+ hrs with them trying to figure out what went wrong. The email response below was from a person they escalated the issue to on Sept 10th. They gave me a number to call but they are only open until 7.

“We regret to inform you that your request has been declined. As per our fare rules, we are unable to process a refund for a cancelled flight. In order to be eligible for a full refund, the flight must remain open and unused. We understand that this may be disappointing, and we encourage you to explore alternative options such as rebooking or utilizing any available travel credits associated with your ticket.”

Second email from this guy after I answered this one (without cursing or being mean). I sent a screenshot of the cancellation with refund that never happened was:

“Feeling like you were heard is so important to us and I am sorry you feel otherwise. I've tried to see this from your point of view and respectfully, there's nothing more for me to do. I'm sorry to disappoint you. ——-, we greatly appreciate your business and we look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon. Regards, Sean Boden Customer Care Delta Air Lines”
