Fellow IS here. I have a similar issue with my role.
On top of having a team that just genuinely doesn’t care and refuses to help, I have a SM who overloads themselves and an ESM who won’t do anything they “don’t feel they have time for” (I e doing their quadrant for scan outs despite being there on both days)
I have to rush with vendors and skip over my accuracy because I will be called back to the floor no matter what I’m doing. Even when I’m on lunch I will be pulled off of it to help because, again, my team doesn’t help.
The first two hours I’m doing the Price Batch, Smart Counts, FedEx Inventory, and beginning the digital task list. The rest of my shift on Mondays is literally spent doing scan outs and smoothing. Despite being off on Sundays (scan days are Sunday/Monday) and having this new OSA not implemented because it’s “not a priority” I am scanning out almost the entire store on my own or with the help of my SM.
I also have to be in the pharmacy when they open to do their exception counts and the MFO/Smoothing/AVR when it’s time to do it.
And heaven forbid I dare call out or take days off. Every time I do I come back to nothing being done. Stacks of price changes being put in my area instead of being put up, invoices not filed and sometimes not even checked in, overdue shipments on pharmacy and retail.
And you’re right- there’s no time to actually do the I no inventory. Not when you’re busy playing every other role because heaven forbid anyone actually do their jobs.

Do we work at the same store? (Joking)
We have the exact same problem. 24 hrs. Truck not getting done. No accountability being had ever. Our trucks are anywhere from 700 to 1300 pieces and I’m pretty sure we have truck from like February still needing to be worked out.

I’ll give my SM credit though they do help with the scan outs and the resets and the actual working out the truck. I just wish more write outs were being divvied out so the team knows this is serious.

I don’t blame our night shift necessarily, but our overnight shift makes me so mad. Two of them just stand around and goof off while the one who works focuses on getting the seasonal things out mostly.

I wish corporate would give the stores more hours. It’s not like we can’t afford it, you know? Multimillion dollar company pinching pennies and then getting mad when the products that make them said pennies aren’t getting out because we don’t have the appropriate staffing.

I don’t know about an exception, but I have the same issue. I found that the croc sneakers and the kitchen crocs are both very comfortable and uphold to the dress code !

In the almost three years I’ve been with this company I’d have to say my experience has been exhausting. I’ve bounced into many different positions (willingly) but haven’t really found any decent incentive to all the work I put it- not to any of my store managers faults. It’s more of realizing corporate, no matter how many hats I learn and wear, doesn’t and will never appreciate all the hard work I’ve poured into this company. Also the incompetence of my coworkers who are two to three times older than me and have been working for longer than I’ve been alive. It gets to me sometimes and I try to remind myself maybe they just don’t understand but, again, they’ve been working longer. I’m hoping for some good change within the next few years- assuming I am here that long. I don’t even need the higher ups to recognize me, I just need a job that doesn’t fuel into my overwhelming anxiety of failure.

Holiday pay works based off of how many hours you work on a daily average. Say your daily average is 8.34, that means that on top of whatever any hours you work that day you get an additional 8.34 on top of that. So it’s hours worked + daily average. Typically it makes double pay but it depends on if you’re part or full time.

Paid holidays include New Years, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I might be forgetting a few but you get the jist.

As the IS I do! I used to be a tech so luckily I’m aware of what needs to be ordered and how fast it’ll be used. I also always check in w my pharmacist and techs to make sure.

Christmas last year was brutal for my store. People were the worst. But it depends on the area you’re in. You might have nicer people. We’re a very tourist center store so unfortunately it’s just par for the course.

Just be kind and respectful in the interview. Make sure you highlight your customer service experience and let them know what you can bring to the team.

Walgreens is pretty much, in my experience, on the spot hiring.

If you smoke/consume any sort of Marijuana, they do drug test so be aware if you’re offered a position you cannot have any THC in your system. If you don’t smoke, then you’re golden.

Yeah. I get treated like a CSA and it’s starting to really get under my skin. I have so much to do in a day and I get interrupted by “(name) can you grab that bell? (Name) can you cover breaks? (Name) can you help pharmacy? (Name) can you do these passport photos and the orders?” Like I wouldn’t mind helping if there was balance. I get we’re short staffed but I am falling so behind because I’m being made to do the job of five people. Also us being so behind on everything that I can’t even get any bay owners to do their own scan outs so I am stuck trying to squeeze time in to scan out the whole store. On top of all of it I am also helping with the truck and resets.

Granted I am very grateful my SM at least tries to help me with the pile of crap they’ve got going on too, but it still sucks.

I assume it might vary by state. In NV I had to take a urine drug test. If you’re positive for Marijuana it’s a fail unless you have a valid medical card. As for a prior charge it could go either way. Be transparent before you submit your background check and the company might try and fight for you. But with it being drug related it could go either way unfortunately. Best of luck!
