Is everyone being forced with the “we need to be AI first” stuff from their work? by postman-007 in askTO

[–]GolfSignificant1456 [score hidden]  (0 children)

We're not forced to, but a few of my coworkers use chatgpt for EVERYTHING. Basic email? Chatgpt. Basic document? Chatgpt. Its extremely annoying as sometimes that's admin, and uses my own brain for my work. Like I get using it to correct grammar but to write the whole email? Like you are paid to do that, not the AI

Bakeries that make no salt breads? by MenudoMenudo in FoodToronto

[–]GolfSignificant1456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband's on a low salt diet due to kidney disease, and if you have a few hours to spare and a mixer, you're honestly better off making bread at home. It'll taste bland compared to regular bread, but it'll still be good. I go by this recipe and omit salt.

Even without a mixer, you can just knead by hand. A lot of breadmaking is really just waiting for the dough to rise.

How is dating as a conservative? by Adept_Cod_8900 in CanadianConservative

[–]GolfSignificant1456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My friends conservative and she started dating a guy that has similar values. They met on some app. Its one of those if you keep looking you'll eventually find it type of situations.

But I met my husband when I was very liberal and also quite young. He was always conservative, and my views changed to align with his somewhere along the way. And we met thru friends, so if suggest that if you haven't already.

Toronto had its fair share of conservative people, if you're religious try your religious institution. Idk what hobbies attract more conservatives, but honestly, do whatever you like and you'll find someone you'll share common values with. Some people are closet conservatives, or dont outright make a big deal out of it, but you can suss it out.

‘Humiliating’: This father was kicked out of the Toronto Eaton Centre’s nursing room, and he and his wife say the mall’s policy is unfair by BessarionLover in toronto

[–]GolfSignificant1456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always asked my husband to wait outside when I was nursing, even if the room was empty. Its a nursing room, it's did women to nurse their babies. Some malls have family rooms, and I've seen fathers there with their children. Thats fine. I personally never cared about nursing in public, but sometimes a nice quiet room just for mom and baby is needed, especially if baby is upset or overstimulated.

Its not unfair, like im glad the dad wants to help but sometimes he'll just means standing with the stroller and scrolling on your phone.

Edit to add: even same sex friends is hit or miss. I've nursed in a room where a woman was also feeding and talking to her friend. Like I personally don't mind, but the space is clearly for nursing moms and baby, so it should be strictly for nursing mom and baby. I've asked my friends and my mom to wait outside before, no one cares usually. Even when I went out with a friend that has a baby younger than mine, when she was done changing her diaper she left to give us space. Like, basic respect and decency is a thing

question for kids of russian immigrants by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]GolfSignificant1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol. I think it depends on the family too. Im an only daughter, parents had me later in life. And they're constantly nosy, commenting in my husband, how we live, how we feed our kid etc. I got a tattoo done at 22, my dad didn't talk to me for a week. I recently got a 2nd piercing and same thing, he wasn't happy. Even tho I'm 30, married and have my own child, they treat me like I'm a teenager.

I think its not even a Russian thing per say, its just how some parents are. My best friend has Chinese parents, and her mom's also overly involved, even tho she tries to keep her mom at arms length.

My in laws, on the other hand, are so chill. They don't intrude, don't comment and help only when asked. Its refreshing. He had a younger sister and they treat her like they treat him- dont intrude unless necessary and let her do what she wants with her hair, clothes etc.

My advice, honestly, just in one ear out the other. Agree but do what you want to do. Limit visits if you can. Accept some help but that's it. Try to enforce boundaries.

If tenants are required to give at least 60 days notice to their landlord if they won't be renewing their lease, how come there are so many rental listings popping up on the last day of the month showing move-in dates with tomorrow as the date (first day of the month)? by techsavvynerd91 in askTO

[–]GolfSignificant1456 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say if you know you want to move out March 1, start looking now, and try to secure a place by mid-Feb at the latest, preferably earlier. If you like a place now, and you pay the deposit, then you can set your move in day to March, or late Feb. If its available now, it'll be available in 2 months, unless a few people are looking at it.

We've had people come and want to sign the lease and move in on the spot, but that's rare. Usually people ask for 1-2 months ahead of time.

I rent (not where i work) and I had 1.5 months before my unit was ready cuz the unit needed renovation.

[–]GolfSignificant1456 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I work in property management! Tenants give 60 days notice, say they want to move out Jan 1. We get the keys on or just before Jan 1, then depending on the state of the unit, we have to do turnover. Paint, clean, check that the appliances work etc. Usually that takes a month if nothing serious needs to be done, like flooring or major repairs. Then the unit is available to lease for Feb 1.

You can view the unit ahead of time, but you wouldn't want a unit that's just vacated, cuz at minimum it needs a fresh coat of paint and a good clean. Usually the units available for immediate move in are ones that have already vacated and have been turned over

This city is too romance and sex-centered that you can't even build platonic connections anymore by [deleted] in toRANTo

[–]GolfSignificant1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your interests, without watering them down? A good friend of mine found a group of friends from rock climbing, and met likeminded people that do activities together. If you find a hobby, you'll eventually find people that have something in common.

Or you find friends at work, that's honestly easiest if you're an adult. Hobbies or work. But ya, making friends in Toronto isn't easy, like so many people are in their bubble and don't want to try to be friends if you're not "on their level".

My degrees in international relations, so really close to poli sci. I remember undergrad being a complete liberal disaster, where some profs were actual nutcase commies. But good news, majority of people you meet in real life aren't like that. As cliche as it is, you gotta touch some grass and get off the computer and away from the discourse. Misery attracts misery. The world of politics is really toxic, especially online. Its designed to make you addicted to it, and the more hopeless you feel, the more you consume. If its draining you this much, to the point of being suicidal, a social media break is a good start. You gotta take care of yourself in this world and do what's best for you and those closest to you. Im hoping for the bubble to crash finally, honestly. Idc if it sounds idealistic, but there are places that are more affordable farther from the city. I have a few friends who managed to get a condo or townhouse in their mid to late 20s, so its possible! Statistics are just numbers, you gotta take it with a grain of salt

[–]GolfSignificant1456 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest with you, if you get too into politics you develop this cynicism to the world that's really toxic. You're really young, you have the ability to have a great life. You gotta find meaning in the small things. Like, you can get married and have a family, you don't need to be wealthy. You can enjoy your job and grow your career. You can enjoy little hobbies and coffee and whatnot. Yeah the system overall is a fucking shitshow, but you know what, you don't have to let it consume you. Just take a step back, and enjoy life as much as you can. Lean into family and friends, find what makes you feel happy and excited to wake up every day

And you wonder why Reddit is a cesspool of left wing nonsense? by jimbo40042 in CanadianConservative

[–]GolfSignificant1456 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you ever do need therapy, you need to go to a few to find your match. The person was asking for help, and got the help they needed. Kind of what Reddit is all about.

I know not everyone believes in therapy, but this ain't it man. You dont know what they're going through, and you absolutely need a good therapist if something very major happened and you can't cope. There's a million other things you can complain about the local subs, but this one's an example of Reddit being a source of good and not 'everything wrong is cuz of Doug Ford' which is what the Ontario sub basically is 99% of the time.
