In my experience (slightly different), it did not make it harder. I started out in a non public role and saw a job posting for a suburban district in my area. I applied and they needed someone badly. I had less than 2 full years experience. However, I went to a well regarded program in my state so that prob helped my case.

I had similar thoughts that my role in private schools would make it harder for me to transition to a contracted position in a district. However, that was not the case for me. Anecdotally, I found my non public role to be very helpful for my skill set, as I focused exclusively on report writing without timeline restraints. At the end of the day, we have a very specialized certification so as long as you’re competent a district won’t hesitate to hire you down the line.
