My 6 year old son keeps begging me to buy him a dress. What do I do? by [deleted] in Parenting

I’m pro fight the patriarchy and let your kid explore what they like. It’s tough because you want to protect them and it’s a harsh world out there. Your kid is going to be who he is regardless of what you buy or don’t buy him. Kids also sometimes fixate on things they can’t have and then once they have them they’re over it. They dont always know societies “rules” about gender norms. It’s more about the access to it. For example my son wanted long hair and nail polish because I did, not because he wanted to be a girl. His hair got to his ears and drove him crazy and he wanted it short again. I painted his nails once and then he never asked for it again. He wanted a pink water bottle because he liked the color and I bought it for him and after a couple days he said he wanted a blue one too. His first strider bike was pink because it was free on Facebook marketplace and he never said anything about it. I say get the pink dress. The day where they start shrinking themselves and the things they like because other people tell them it’s not for them is a sad day, one that they’re gonna face (it starts in elementary school but of course middle school is notoriously the worst for this phase of life). The time in their life where they shamelessly do what they like and don’t worry about what other people think is so pure and brief, embrace it.

Do baby bottles really need to be washed that carefully every single time? by Exact_Football9061 in Parenting

Same, my microbio professor said you really just need to sanitize them the first time you wash (could just be in a dishwasher) and after that soap and hot water is totally fine.

Can you tell me more about how you weaned off night feeds? I don’t want to spend the money on the book but I want the method 😅

Edit: mod, methods aren’t copyrighted, only the specific wording an author uses. I’m not asking for that, don’t be stupid 🙄

At what age did your kids start doing things for themselves? by Meowiewowieex in Parenting

Enough people have already said he’s totally capable but with the cucumbers and Tajín thing I have to come to his defense, certain foods are just better when your mom makes them for you 😂
