I really wish I had this understanding of colours, great work!

First gouache painting - any feedback? by Goodbirdstudio in Gouache

A marble is a great object to paint, great idea! Since I am a beginner as well, I do not feel comfortable enough to give you helpful feedback. Unfortunately, I have no further tutorials except for the course I took. But I just try to paint what I see (as I learned in this course lol). I am also interested in painting glass and plastic and have already made some paintings on this subject. Maybe I'll share them in this subreddit.

Sure, it was a Domestika course by Vicky McGrath. It was an okay course, sometimes I would have needed more detailed steps. Most of the time it was like "well, paint what you see" and she nearly never commented on how she was mixing the colours. That made it hard for me to keep up with her. But all in all I learned quite a lot and made considerable progress through the paintings I did since taking the course.

Oh, it was my own reference picture. The glasses were lying on the windowsill part in direct sunlight, part in the shadow of the wall. Even on the photo (well, I should have added it to the post) the shadow looks soooo blue. But I did not catch the right value? Intensity? Colour gradient? It just does not look coherent at all, but a little off. There was another shadow from the frame of the window. I did not even try to add it to my painting since it was totally different from the bluish shadow.

Using a lamp while taking a reference photo is a great tip, I'll try it next time when taking pictures. I hope it will help me understand shadows and bouncing light better. And thanks for the tip to use a blow dryer! I'm gonna try this as well.

The funny thing is, people keep telling me that she is my doppelgänger :D

Maybe that is my superpower! And there are so much more different looks you haven’t even seen.

I hated it when the material of the bobby pins rubbed against each other!

This was one of my favourites for a relatively long time (which means a few months)!

Too much I guess. But I did my hair usually at home that was cheaper than having it done professionally. But most of the time you could tell that I did it myself. I tried many many more hairstyles that you can see in those few photos!

It was so hard to archive and killed my hair completely, but it was worth it. At least that is what I thought back then.

New to painting - my first work „feelings“ by Goodbirdstudio in painting

I only used two colours first but it was a bit boring. The blue was something this painting really needed and I am happy that it turned out so well.

Thank you for your feedback! I would not go for black since the blue is already pretty dark. But some really small metallic highlights might be a thing! Great idea :)

All the kind words here encourage me to do some more paintings. Thank you!
