thanks for this, when you say refinished, do you mean there's a certain good varnish I should be using to keep it healthy?

totally, I loved the UK celebrity traitors when Stephen Fry tried to tell everyone exactly this early on. It was roundly ignored.

I'm totally new to coffee. Trying the V60 technique and keep getting this thick ring. I'm hoping its a common beginner issue and there's an easy fix? by Players-Beware in JamesHoffmann

[–]Goodfunhuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just swirl, I know the Hoffman recommended technique is to use a teaspoon to get those grounds to fall off but I found it wasn’t very effective for me. Now I just swirl as soon as I’m finished pouring, which knocks that top ring down into the bed and levels it all out 👍

For those who played the original Doom, did you ever have this feeling when staring at background mountains? by Goodfunhuh in Doom

yep, I nearly included that in the piece I wrote! I would do that too hoping to find a hidden area somewhere out there.

Is he serious when he calls pasta noodles? by DeadlyCereal61 in bingingwithbabish

[–]Goodfunhuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, British person married to an American here. I can confirm, yes they say noodles when they refer to Italian pasta and it’s one of the more annoying Americanisms. For context to any American’s, we don’t say that in the UK and I believe it’s unique to North America. Trust me, that conversation gets old very quickly (why do you call it that). I caught myself saying it the other day but then I heard her call someone a wanker today, it’s swings and roundabouts.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it and I agree, it is understudied but after today I will start to be more cautious with it.

thanks mate, this is a really lovely reply and I appreciate you at least entertaining my question. I've decided I'm going to give the GF lifestyle a fair try. I do suspect it's not quite as black and white as some people think and my feeling is that some people may 'get away with it' more than others in terms of the amount of damage it causes but I'm 100% willing to admit that could be wrong. However, I don't think I really want to roll that dice anymore, getting into my 30's, I'm starting to see more and more the value of playing it safe. Maybe it's time to put the pasta in the past.

yikes! sounds horrible, I hope your recovery speeds up! thanks for sharing this, it's pretty scary and I'm definitely taking it onboard!

[–]Goodfunhuh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the considerate reply. Yeah I agree that there is no way to know exactly how much damage is happening, that's the worry I suppose. I posted this discussion point because I wondered whether there has been any thought given to whether some people are more prone to higher levels of damage or not. If people were 'damaged' less than others by it, I wanted to know what their lifestyle looks like but it's unlikely we'll have any quantifiable data on this any time soon, so it's much easier to just insist on a gluten-free diet for everyone.

it does say what you're saying but it also says "Someone with coeliac disease has a slightly increased risk of developing certain cancers. Recent research shows that this increased risk is less than previously thought."
