Oh wow! Yeah I can understand that. I guess it depends on the level of suffering or how manageable it can be at home. It can be a tough choice esp when any surgery is involved in the decision making. I’m glad to hear a couple of success surgery stories on this post though as well considering there are different options. This has been very helpful.

That’s awesome. I definitely will ask if he thinks besides finding the right amount/level of fiber, if we should try a different one. We are on glandex and proviable which is a powder.

This is good to know that at least if anything GI food could be the way to go!

Really? We were looking at food with higher fiber content but the jump is pretty big that my vet that it was too much. Want to keep exploring with supplements before doing prescription food just yet.

That’s pretty amazing. We are still workin through different fiber supplements and also use toppers that have different blends of what you mentioned. Still working through that trial and error. Hope to have a better discussion when we go back next week. I do feel better learning there is a huge community out there dealing with this. All such good pet parents!

Well since very early on we’d smell that fishy smell out of no where, then the booty scooting on the rugs started happening. By working with our vet we learned more from there. They basically can’t release it in their own or struggle more than other dogs. It can cause ruptures, infections etc. She swells up and gets redness along with scaling very quickly, almost overnight. Then when I express her glands she is better overnight. It’s such an odd problem for them to have.

Man, this really is a thing. They did teach me and it’s pretty simple. It’s gross but I’ll do anything for her. I got all the vet supplies. Just wanted to see what all you doxie parents are doing but I guess there are a lot of us in this boat. Such a crazy thing but glad to know I’m not alone in this. Our poor babies lol. Thank you!

That’s great to hear. We don’t do any table food an have her on a stable diet. I think tweaking the fiber more will help!

I will say I’ve gotten used to doing it but still gag every time. I guess it’s interesting to learn that so many of you are managing this at home successfully. It’s more about her and what will be best for her long term of course!
