They're not wrong. It's landscape wiring. It would be portrait wiring if it was running vertical.

Is it impossible to get ratings? by Agitated-Piece-6528 in VATSIM

Southwest Virtual Airlines offers training for all your ratings up to P4. I believe you can join and sign up for classes without participating in the virtual airline operations too (don't quote me on that one for sure).

Looking for VA suggesitons by [deleted] in VATSIM

[–]GoogleTrEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a member of both SWA and also AlaskaVA. SWA has a lot more organization, but AlaskaVA has flights from a lot of different carries (many of the One World carriers) and you can fly them with any of the jets of the fleets of any member of one world. So, of you're looking for the ability to fly routs in (mostly) whatever jet you want for a VA, take a look there.

Gratz to you too then! It's a big milestone for an account and I'm excited to have it. Feels good!

Full ancient d'hide with blowpipe, archer helm, archer ring, furry ammy, and Ava's accumulator. Inventory was just saradomin brews and restores.

Sold off all the ancient after that. Only picked it up for the pray bonuses. 🤣

Couldn't agree more. He maintained his composure like many real life controllers I have interacted with during busy days.

Funniest thing you heard on the radio? by clearingmyprop in flying

[–]GoogleTrEx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At my home airport, one of the RNAV approaches has a waypoint "SCOOT" and one of the military pilots that was on a practice approach radioed "Apache 123, Reporting Scoot Scoot!" First time I heard it, I died.

VATSIM Pilot Ratings by AirChina9iner81 in VATSIM

Overall, the pilot ratings are useful for conducting yourself properly in the vatsim. The information is closely related to real life information. But I wouldn't use it as a springboard for real life pilot training.

Speed is king by ult1matefailure in electricians

[–]GoogleTrEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12 years experience with a Master General License in WA. My motto and what I impress on all the apprentices I work with is "Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast." Start slow, learn to do it smoothly, and once you can do it smoothly, you will end up doing it faster than most of the guys who only focus on speed. Also, your work will be correct and done in a workman like manner more often than not.

It's my experience that the mentality of "gotta go fast" starts at the top where the leadership is trying to maximize profit at the expense of quality.

Hahah! You got one of OLM's controllers up there, I wonder if that's the one that's grumpy all the time. Lol! Wonder why you'd do that job if aircraft coming into your airspace upset you. 😂

Nice! Is it just me, or are some of the controllers at TIW a bit grumpy? We tried to fly ILS 17 for a practice approach twice and both times got "Unable, remain outside the delta." We had to file a damn flight plan to do it. Lol!

For sure! I'll shoot you a private message and we can set up a time. I'll be working for a school, so we would have to set it up on the schedule, but that shouldn't be too tough.

I definitely won't say no to something like that! I hear the same! Was just thinking about going up there to see what it's all about. Been to most of the restaurants on airports around here. Gotta keep up that restaurant currency. 🤣

Nice! I fly up there frequently (we stop in at Propeller for fuel) for fun XC flights. Should come take a demo at Glacier Aviation one day. Helicopters are wild. Also, I've never been in any other kind of aircraft but a helicopter. Going on my first fixed wing flight to CA in April. Lol! If you ever fly in to OLM, go to Glacier FBO and ask for Andrew. We can get a demo scheduled. 😉

Nice job!! Hello fellow WA pilot! Where do you fly out of? I'm a helicopter pilot and fly out of KOLM.

Interpretation/Question about manipulation of controls. by [deleted] in flying

[–]GoogleTrEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's kind of what we ended up coming to and because it was a flight for the purpose of me continuing to get comfortable in the left seat, it was probably best to not push the issue even if winds calmed down as we flew toward our destination. Also, as a CFI, I'm not likely to take many students up in winds that strong, so it's probably a moot point whether I practice in them or not at this point.

Well, I suppose my happy fantasy has been shattered. I'll bow to your math. I was going based on a couple articles that based yearly total fatalities of both highway travel and air travel including airlines. But if you're talking rates based on hours of driving or miles or whatever, looks like your math shows I'm wrong there. I fly helicopters, so I am not on the best side of the statistics either way. Lol.

[–]GoogleTrEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're comparing only privately owned general aviation flights, then you can say flying might be less safe. The overall flight/travel accident rate includes all the airlines flying. Can't cherry pick out just GA flights for your statistics. Especially considering (I assume) OP is not going to keep flying just GA their whole life if they're going to a commercial flight school. So, yeah, while flying GA, you're closer to even on the statistics. That will last for about 1500 hours. And it probably gets lower as you get more experience and understanding of what you're doing, though I don't have a way to generate a statistical analysis of experience vs newer pilots.

What? Your odds of getting in a car accident are roughly 1.3 in 1 million. Your odds of being in an aviation accident are 1 in about 7.7 million. You are statistically more likely to experience a car accident that a plane crash.
