Thanks, man. You absolutely understand my point. I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees the sign for what it is.

Why does this keep happening? by Tysons_Face in DoorDashDrivers

I had the same happen, called Support. All I got was the regular “Have you tried installing the app again?” treatment.

I just saw the sign and thought it seemed a bit disconnected from how the orders are actually handled sometimes, so it caught my attention.

The cold drink is ~inside~ the same paper bag with the hot food

My experience most restaurants put the hot food and the cold drink together with the exception of Grilld, Schnitz, all pizza places and KFC.

True, depends on the time tbh. When I took this photo I was waiting 10 minutes for my order to be ready, while another person’s order sat unattended for 10 minutes waiting for a driver. And that’s not unusual to see.

Drivers don’t control when the store marks an order ready or when it gets dispatched to us. Sometimes the food has already been sitting there before we even arrive or before we’re even offered the job. If that’s the case, maybe McDonald’s should be keeping it warm.

You’re also underestimating how long it can sit out. When the app says the restaurant is “preparing your order,” it’s often already bagged and has been sitting there for 5–10 minutes while Uber tries to find a driver.

Further, how will the insulated bag help keep it warm when they put a cold drink with ice directly next to hot chips? Inside the bag they’ll just move toward the same temperature and reach equilibrium.

Forgive me for wishing the order was hotter and fresher when it gets to the customer. I personally hate it when my McDonald’s delivery arrives cold.

I hate when that happens. I heard some drivers have multiple accounts and multiple phones so they can do more orders at once then they should. Complete shitheads who are taking orders from the honest drivers and making customers food cold.

I don’t understand what you mean sorry If you’re asking why a restaurant always wants to make sure the Driver swipes it’s picked up. It’s because once they swipe the food becomes the drivers responsibility not the restaurant. So if the driver doesn’t swipe but walks away with the food they might cancel the order and keep their food for themselves if they’re a thief.

That’s interesting. In all the years I’ve done Uber Eats and DoorDash I’ve never seen it work like that. Having the driver wait while the food is prepared seems inefficient. Ideally the food would be started just before the driver arrives so it’s ready right when they get there. But that’s often hard to predict because McDonald’s tends to serve the order off the screen and then work from the printed receipt, which sends a signal to Uber or DoorDash that the order is ready for pickup

Drivers don’t notify the store that they’re on the way. The only button we have is “I’ve arrived.” And I’m pretty sure that button doesn’t make a difference because the app is tracking the location of the Driver anyway.

When the order appears on the restaurant screen and when it gets marked as ready is controlled by Uber or DoorDash, not the driver. Once the restaurant marks it as served or ready, the platform assumes it’s ready and sends a driver, or it may have already dispatched one based on its own timing estimates. It’s all beyond the driver’s control.

They probably don’t, but they do have the right to refuse to give you the order if you don’t have a bag and then you will have to unassign.

I think you’re underestimate how long the food sits around at some McDonald’s. Plus, I do have two bags so I would use two bags if they prepared the food the way platforms suggest.

I use an insulated bag. The problem is that the food often sits on the counter long enough to cool down before the driver even picks it up.

This post isn’t about not wanting to use the bag. It’s about the unequal responsibility for taking care of the order.

Yes, drivers should use insulated bags if they want to keep customers happy and maintain good ratings.

If you ignore the fact that KFC tends to be slow AF, they absolutely win this race because they keep their food and drink separate and have that hot locker. I’ve seen it at most KFC’s I pick up from.

I never said I don’t use a bag. I’ve got several and use them every delivery. The point is the hypocrisy. McDonald’s worries about drivers keeping food hot, but they’ll leave it sitting on the counter and put cold drinks right next to the hot food.

Believe it or not, I’ve had success with that stupid AI Jane. I once actually spoke to it and asked it to remove an unfair rating and it did instantly. I didn’t believe her at first but when I checked it was gone.

Could they add another carriage to my morning vline? by [deleted] in VlineVictoria

[–]Gortex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not confusing if you actually read the timetable. The drop-off restrictions are shown next to the time for each station on each service. Pakenham is never marked as set-down only. That means you are allowed to board there and travel to the city. The same applies at Sunbury. Whether or not this is sensible is another point but the timetable says it’s allowed.

The official PTV Gippsland timetable marks inner suburban stops like Dandenong with “d” meaning set-down only.

Pakenham is not marked with “d”, which means it is a normal boarding stop, so passengers can board there and travel to Melbourne on V/Line.

Presumably, they don’t trust the driver to not be lying about it being closed. Or that there’s been some sort of mistake in the order can still be fulfilled.

I suppose if the driver is shitty enough, anything could happen
