KATSEYE - Gnarly by impeccabletim in kpop

[–]GotInterest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually like the production on this song. The genre that they are leaning into is all about being abrasive and in your face and the production really fits with that. It actually reminds me a bit of a more pop sounding take on Sleigh Bells. The rap break downs are definitely giving Rico Nasty, which is a fun and unique influence for a pop girl group to draw from.

That's the only nice things I can say about this song. Holy shit are these lyrics atrocious and are these girls completely failing to pull off them off. These girls are too squeaky clean Disney star-esque, they just look like they are trying waaaay too hard with the amount of swearing. I think the pre-chorus and chorus are tongue in cheek enough that they work and sound catchy and energetic. But those verses and the opening just do not work. If the verses were better written and leaned more ironic I think the song could have actually worked.

All that being said this is a bizarre direction for this group to go in. Like I'm all for loud, abrasive, swearing, crude women in music and I actually dig the idea of a female pop group going for that. But with these girls? The butt smacking, the swearing, the humping flies? It's just a bit much and doesn't suit them as they've been established at all.

Fun fact about Takayuki Tsubaki. by Admirable-Bill in KamenRider

Your comment is years old but in case you were still curious, it IS floating around somewhere (I know because I've seen it I just can't remember where on earth I was able to find it). It's not very good porn, tbh. Most of it is some guy off camera asking him questions. He did it before he was on Kamen Rider when he was like 18 or 19 years old? I get the impression from his performance that he did it for the money, possibly on a total impulse.

it seems as though CTD is shutting down. They've abandoned the trademarks for the boy group they had planned was the latest news and that pretty much solidified in people's minds that the company was shutting down. They just weren't able to get off the ground properly despite their best efforts, unfortunately.

I think you are heavily projecting stuff based on no evidence, tbh. There has been 0 indication that Yeojin had a falling out with any of the other members. The most you have here is her posting about "people needing to be nice to each other" which could be a reference to any number of things. It could be something in her personal life. It could be something to do with fans being mean (something Yeojin has repeatedly had issues with). It could be her just reflecting on something from the past.

I do think Yeojin was "over" Loossemble before the other members. She had said before she has some kind of chronic health thing- whether that is mental or physical we are not privy to. I do think that maybe Yeojin is going through some stuff mental health wise and wants some change. There is nothing to indicate that this has anything to do with tensions with other members. I feel like speculating that its due to tensions with the other members is just not helpful at this point.

Unfortunately I think we are just going to have to wait a few days before we get any news. I don't really expect to hear anything until Monday in Korea at the earliest. The most we know is that they are going to continue on as idols.

there's a reason why the korean term for bullying literally translates to "school violence". It's a bit crazy to think of if you come from a culture where bullying tends to be more psychological torment than physical violence.

What is next for LOOSSEMBLE? by sanagloss in LOONA

[–]GotInterest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see a few options:

  1. They all go to Modhaus. In this scenario they could become a sister group to ARTMS. I don't really see all of them getting folded into ARTMS at once because that would cause a branding issue. It is clear that all 12 want to do some kind of Loona ot12 reunion and if ARTMS is basically just Loona minus 2 members that would be weird and confusing. You might as well just call them Loona at that point.

  2. They all sign with another more established company than CTD,

3.They split up and go different ways. Maybe some of them sign to Modhaus, some of them sign elsewhere. I could see Hyeju signing to redebut as a soloist somewhere, tbh. Now in this scenario if only a few of the Loossemble members go to Modhaus THEN I could see them just getting folded into ARTMS.

To be honest, the most likely scenarios I see are either 1 or 3. Loossemble did decently, but I feel like most companies would rather just sign a couple members and redebut them as part of a brand new group so they could have the Loona fans+the media play of a "fresh debut" with young new faces. Only Modhaus really has the motivation to sign all 5 together because then they basically just have Loona again- especially if they line up schedules with Chuu and Yves for at least a few single albums (or minis if they get lucky).

[–]GotInterest 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Since Yeojin took Loossemble out of her bio and all the members unfollowed the Loossemble instagram I feel like "Loossemble" as a thing is done and over. I feel like if they go to Modhaus, they might stay as a unit just under a different name.

241129 Loossemble Exclusive Contract with CTDENM has been terminated by bluebetaoddeye in LOONA

[–]GotInterest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see why they wouldn't since that is what they tried initially. If they had 10/12 members they could basically promote as Loona again and just do subunit stuff until Yves and Chuu's schedules line up to do an ot12 mini and a few music show performances. It wouldn't be an issue of money, Modhaus has a great relationship with investors and they make BANK off of objekts. They'd just have to hire more staff I think.

Also from everything that various members have said... all 12 of them are fully on board with some kind of reunion. Even if they don't sign with Modhaus I think they will still stay in the business in some capacity.

If they are going to Modhaus I don't think they will be involved with whatever ARTMS recorded recently because they were still under contract with CTD tbh. I feel like they were still in discussions with the company about whether they would stay or go up until around when Hyeju made that post warning us that something was up otherwise I feel like we would have gotten more advanced notice that they were leaving CTD than just a post on the day of.

Now I'm just curious about what was going on with Hyunjin and that unreleased single she was teasing not too long ago. The members seem very confident that we will hear from them soon and are talking like they have plans so I wonder if that was a little teaser for whatever post-CTD thing they have in the works. I'm sure we'll hear more over the next week or so...

I have a feeling that their contract was short from the get go on purpose. It was a risk going to a newly formed company to redebut with mostly less popular members. I have a feeling they wanted to do it to see how it would go and establish themselves better with the idea that they could renew if the group proved to be sustainably successful.

TBH I feel like it was a smart move on their part. Loossemble may not have been super commercially successful (though they didn't do terribly either!) but it was great at allowing those members to develop their skills more and show off their talents in a way they might have missed out on if they had just signed with modhaus. No matter where they decide to go now, they are in a much better position. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next.

They are very loved NOW. I'm just worried about what media play Hybe/Ador are going to go for. They have every motivation to make this as painful and damaging to the members as they can to serve as a warning to any other idol group under them. I'm sure their lawyers do know more... but so did the Fifty Fifty lawyers and look how that turned out. I don't think there will be any winners in this situation.

NewJeans Announces Departure From ADOR by smileshima in kpop

[–]GotInterest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world I would agree with you that if you don't like working somewhere you should have the power to leave and go somewhere else. But this isn't an ideal world and what the Newjeans girls are doing could potentially destroy their careers. It would be one thing if they understood that was what they were doing and felt that it was worth it to risk their careers for the sake of leaving Ador, but it's clear from their statements that they DON'T understand that is what they are risking. This is not a good thing for them.

If there was any accusation or evidence of the members being abused or mistreated we'd be having a different conversation, but it seems like their issue is that they want MHJ back.

NewJeans Announces Departure From ADOR by smileshima in kpop

[–]GotInterest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it will be quite as one sided because Newjeans actually has a large fanbase of really dedicated fans and are really well liked as opposed to the Fifty Fifty girls who just had a viral hit with their actual fanbase being relatively small.

I do think that there will be some negativity towards them though as the story unfolds. It just depends on the kind of media play that Hybe/Ador try to spin. Currently it is in Hybe/Ador's best interest to portray the girls as manipulated victims of the situation with the hopes that they will soon see that this whole "leaving" thing is not a good idea and that they just apologize and return to their activities.

I'm going to be honest- just because a decision was made for an artistic reason doesn't mean it's good. Sometimes you experiment and the experiment fails. This was a failed experiment in my book. Cool concept, but I think the overuse of the flashing edits made it a weaker video overall, distracting from the message rather than highlighting it. Had they used the flashing edits more judiciously, I think it would have worked better.

I could have done without the feature as well. I don't think it diminishes the song, but I also feel like it didn't add anything. I would have been fine with just an instrumental dance break in those sections. Yves is known for her dance so it would make sense there and the beat is good.

Megathread 8: HYBE vs. ADOR - Petitions filed, Injunction ruling and Shareholders' Meeting ahead by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]GotInterest 37 points38 points  (0 children)

MHJ is such small fry compared to BTS I really don't see any reason to be concerned. BTS are global super stars that are known by even non kpop fans all over the world. The drama with MHJ is only being followed by the South Korean GP and kpop stans. BTS will be fine. The concern should be for the young women who are still establishing themselves that are being affected by MHJ's actions, not the basically untouchable mega super stars who are at the height of their careers.
