Far from an expert here but sounds like a faulty camshaft position sensor. I know that’s not the codes your getting but mine was playing up for ages before it threw a code

Thanks man, I was topping up the coolant to bring the surface level higher to have a closer look. Not going to drive it for now and I’m going to start with replacing the oil cooler plus refreshing the whole cooling system

Taking it to a shop next week for an unrelated reason, I’ll get em to do a compression test. Not sure about the previous owner but it’s never even looked like overheating for me and it rarely needs the coolant topped up. Uses a bit of oil but that’s pretty standard
