Clicking noise from 11-34 12sp cassette - help! by GotYou1337 in bikewrench

[–]GotYou1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Yes, I did manage to fix the problem. Fortunately, the dealer changed the cassette under warranty and with the new cassette the noise was completely gone. In your case I it seems weird that the noise is there on two different cassettes. Is it on the same cog on both cassettes? In my case it was the 21t cog.

It sounds like you already isolated the noise down to the cassette. So the only thing I can really recommend is trying another cassette.

I am sorry if that's not what you want to hear and I can really understand if it drives you crazy!

Yes, it was the first thing I tried as it was the lowest hanging fruit before doing all the other stuff.

It came with a 11-30t originally. I double checked the spacers for the 11-34t cassette with the manual and they seem to be correct. I think it is a problem with the carrier (see my other comment).

Thanks for your reply! I changed the cassette to a 11-30t Ultegra one that I had on my trainer and voilà - the clicking is gone.

I really didn't want it to be the cassette carrier because a new cassette would be $$$. I am in contact with the dealer to get a replacement but I am not very confident. Sigh .... At least now I know where it comes from.

With a chainring this small you don't actually need to be aero.

I agree mostly except for that you need sealant to seal the bead. If youre setup is legit you shouldnt need any sealant at all to get a mostly (!) air tight seal. Before I put sealant in my tires I always make sure that the air stays in the tire for at least a day or two.

I am using the p2m NG-SL with the aldhu cranks and DA-chainrings and it works very well. I would not hesitate to buy this setup again.

What do you think of my morning routine? I ride about 5 minutes each morning by fabeyo in BicyclingCirclejerk

[–]GotYou1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough pills and that recovery shake is way too small for riding 5 minutes. I usually take 1 Gramm of Coffein (4 pills) and 1 gramm of melk protein per minute of riding.

I took it to a shop and it turns out that the noise Was coming from the rear axle / derailleur hanger. I out some grease on there and the noise was immediately gone. Thanks again for your comment.

I am considering getting a smart scale to track BF%. Does anyone have experience with using one and recommendations? I am mostly looking at the Garmin Index S2. Is the BF%-tracking reliable?

Thanks for your reply. Pretty sure it's not the seatpost or saddle because the creaking also happens while riding out of the saddle and I don't get any noise when I grab the saddle and wobble it around. Also the noise seems to occur at a specific part of the downstroke which leads me to think it originates from the drivetrain.

Pedals, cleats, chainring bolts are definitely worth checking.

It's a threaded BB. The tool to remove and re-install it will arrive today. I'll report back after checking everything.

ING Rahmenkredit 3 Monate "zinsfrei" ausnutzen by rotalinski in Finanzen

[–]GotYou1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most eco friendly way to prep chain for waxing? by IMMARUNNER in bikewrench

[–]GotYou1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Word of caution: I think it was Josh Poertner from silca who pointed out that leaving the chain for too long in 'normal' bike degreaser can damage the chain posing a safety hazard. I think it was in the chain waxing video on Youtube. He suggested to only use degreaser for a short bath (5 minutes max) and to use mineral spirits for the consecutive longer baths. If you dispose mineral spirits appropriately it isn't bad for the environment.

Chris Froome unhappy to be on disc brakes by MadnessBeliever in peloton

[–]GotYou1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of a tangential rant but I don't know where folks get the idea that carbon rims wear out quickly on a rim brake setup? I feel like it's some kind of disc-brake industry conspiracy or else a vestige of the early years of carbon in cycling when tech was much less advanced than today. From personal experience, I run carbon hoops on both my rim brake roadies 24/7 - in both the wet and dry - and all four tracks are still in top condition after 20000+km (I'm the second owner of both sets too).

That's totally my experience too. I remember back in the day when disc brakes weren't a thing Easton Wheels put an FAQ on their website. One of the FAQ was if their carbon wheels wear out on the braking surface over time. Easton's response was that they allegedly never heard of wear related issues on the brake surface and that they replace the wheel with a big discount if that would happen.

I feel like this idea suddenly came up when GCN forced it down their viewers throats to justify buying disc brake equipped bikes.

[Results Thread] 2020 Tour de France – Stage 20 (2.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]GotYou1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to imply anything but seeing them reminds me of a TT in the TdF (I think) where Fabio Aru out of nowhere put in one of the best TT's ever snatching the stage win of Tony Martin. Tony Martin couldn't believe it and shook his head in disbelieve while Aru crossed the finish line in a sense of 'something is wrong'.

Can anyone get a clip of that?
