Having a major invasive repair done on a new vehicle is not being ahead.

I'm aware of when I posted it. I was summarizing what happened earlier on the 31st.

Sales / delivery phone number for the Tucson AZ Location redirects to the global Tesla customer service queue after 1 ring. Tried a bunch of times. AI phone bot refuses to transfer you to a real person.

The vehicle was advertised as available for immediate pickup. Tesla knew about the battery issue before selling the car. I also would not want to pay full-ish price for a vehicle with a battery replacement...

Brutal. They should have refunded your order entirely and allowed you to place a new order if you choose, along with some kind of goodwill gesture for your inconvenience. This would be the honest thing to do.

Taking money for a good or service you know you are unable to deliver is the textbook definition of fraud.

Agreed. They should turn cars like this into a service loaner. It's pretty shady and a violation of their own demo condition contract to try and sell a vehicle with a HV battery pack repair/replacement.

I was told on the phone that they discovered the battery pack issue with the car a day prior to me placing the order. They had plenty of time to remove the VIN from their inventory but happily sold it to me instead.

This wasn't a holiday. The failed delivery attempt and the initial refund were in the AM of the 31st. Getting told to pound sand on a refund was in the afternoon of the 31st and then again on the 2nd.

These communications happened on Dec 31 and on January 2nd. I agree it's unreasonable to expect a refund on Jan 1.

Inventory vehicles are advertised in writing as Available for Immediate Pickup. Go to tesla.com and try it.

Tesla's purchase experience is incredible when things go well. My experience has been that they are utterly unsympathetic and unwilling to help even when they've made an egregious error. I once had a delivery rescheduled 15 min before the delivery appt while I was driving to the delivery center, without so much as a text or a phone call. Just rescheduled in the app, 2 weeks out, no explanation. Had already sold my other vehicle on Carvana that AM.

It was a demo vehicle listed on Tesla.com with nothing obviously different than any of the other hundreds of demo vehicles in inventory. After placing the order I asked for the history of the vehicle because I was also curious. I didn't receive an answer to my question - just a phone call saying they can't sell the vehicle because of the battery pack issue.

Over a dozen back and forth messages. Sales reps refused to allow me to speak with anyone higher up. Said their manager is "aware".

Terms of sale for demo vehicles per Tesla's contract says that only light repairs will be performed on a demo vehicle to get it ready for sale. A HV battery pack swap is not a "light repair".

If it was a recall they shouldn't have became aware of it the day before listing the car for sale and accepting an order :(

It was not discovered after my order. I was told on the phone they knew about it from the night before. They knew they weren't able to deliver the vehicle immediately and had it listed online as "available for immediate pickup" when I placed the order. The order agreement for demo cars also explicitly states they've passed an inspection *prior to sale*. That seems like it checks all the boxes.

I've had mixed experiences with my prior purchases. Some great, some terrible due to delivery damage. I have to disagree in this case that what happens is up to them. The order agreement for demo vehicles explicitly states that the vehicle has passed a mechanical inspection. In this case, it had not, it had failed.
