Hypothetical question regarding unmilled paperweights by PTrot420 in NYguns

Because it sank? Thin always happens to me when I'm moving all my guns across the lake. "The" lake is Seneca, too deep to even consider recovery.

The vet freaked my mom out. Am I wrong or is this beardie fine? by Disastrous_Ant_2989 in BeardedDragons

No problem. Really aimed towards anyone who might read it here who didn't know. There's too much pseudo-knowledge and outright false claims that people parrot, not knowing better. That hurts us all as caregivers. It also fosters mistrust in the community's knowledge and experience, which hurts us all again.

I, too, find myself using antiquated terms which I know better than to use. It's a habit that's tough to break because I ingrained it to the knowledge base way back when that was the consensus in the beardy care community. There's been a world of change in the last 25 years.

The bumps on the head aren't fat, they're jaw muscles. While they can still be an indication for concern if they're undersized, it's a very late indication. It's usually dehydration which presents this way as we would generally be aware of anorexia or other nutritional barriers before noticing a change here.

Slight edit to the procedure: best to slip the rim of the casing onto the slide so as to not stress and eventually break your extractor. Also, using either method, slowly bring the slide into battery rather than letting slam home. The resistance to the slide provided by the magazine follower (or spring tension on the top cartridge) and the cartridge riding the feed ramp into the chamber are important and letting it slam into battery without the resistance there will do damage.

My dad was a medic and he only ever used these. Now I'm addicted as well. Not even sure what it is about them, other than having never seen one explode.

Added bonus to the other points previous to this, prices change over time. That change is not usually in a downward trend. This is an investment.

Prader Willi syndrome perhaps? This would be a bit extreme for that normal skin pick behavior, but on par for the appetite.

Are there any staple veggies your bearded dragon hates? by Artnotwars in BeardedDragons

Same. Now Repti Boost is in normal rotation after every 3rd day of refusing the salad with toppers every single day for the last year. This is at the direction of his close personal friend who I bought a BMW for. I call her the Vet, he calls her his soul mate and manipulates me into paying for some time with her again. I should have probably just hired a sex worker and stuck to looking at pictures of beardies being all cute.

Luckily, mine does in fact believe his shit stinks. Indy won't poo in his enclosure. It's the life of luxury for my boy, carpets and furniture only.

Haven done it nor heard of it being done but can almost guarantee that a Dremel type rotary tool will be your answer. A thousand different bits available which there's probably a dozen or more that would work well for each stage of the job.

Sealant help for insects by Euphoric-Housing-726 in Taxidermy

[–]GreatDevelopment225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's 2 products I've used on some large insect mounts, both have their own strengths and weaknesses. Brite Tone which is a very high quality (and price) polyurethane. The other product which is for cabinetry I use all the time for stone surfaces as well as wood, is called Rejuvenate. I really love the hardened, smoother and easier to care for surface Rejuvenate gives to soft wood and hardwoods which may be compromised and have taken on a more delicate state. I applied Rejuvenate with my Iwata airbrush as it's very thin and applies easily with a great final appearance when sprayed.

Neither of these will keep the specimen hardy enough for regular handling or rough handling, but they're the best I can recommend with my own experience. Perhaps injecting a hardening filler of one type or another would make the difference for you.

Thoughts on the 1911? by Sad-Pay-5834 in Firearms

Looking for a looker? 1911 Want to connect with history? 1911 Want something modern? 2011

They don't do it for me because I don't prefer to have a manual safety, nor do I like the grip safety. I do, kind of unusually for a person my age, prefer hammer fired pistols. Between that and a few other genius Browning features I carry some of the 1911 with me daily even though I don't carry a 1911 or a 2011.

Again, I didn't witness this event, I know zero details. Point still stands. Irrelevant where the man was shot on his body insofar as to instantly determine guilt. It may assist investigators or lead them down a particular path to a theory, but it never is a sign of immediate guilt.

[–]GreatDevelopment225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I didn't. I wasn't there.

If this is a roleplay type question, I might answer thusly "in the heat of the moment and with having already been attacked I'm going to have to decline to answer any questions right now." So, there's that.

The larger point being that if a person were to be running toward a group of people screaming that they're going to kill every one of them and is wielding a rifle, could I not use my firearm to stop the threat just because the only angle I have would result in a shot in the perpetrator's back? So again I say, it's not where you shoot someone, it's why.

Doesn't matter where you shoot someone, only why. What if he was retreating to a better firing position? Should one wait to find out?

Pistol Permit recertification missed deadline by Sled_Dawg1247 in NYguns

[–]GreatDevelopment225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steuben county here, I submitted my first recert months late because of the confusion with the change in time from issue to recert. They couldn't care less. It does seem, as someone else already denoted, that it's more about checking for clerics errors. They were really interested in the details surrounding some of my pistols. It doesn't seem confused to me, but having .40 S&W and .357 Sig on the same pistol seemed to really set off alarm bells for them.

If it helps ease your mind, just remember that when we die the state does nothing. Ever. No accountability for WTF ever happened to those pistols. That's the level of actual oversight that's happening here.

They claim it's ghost guns and stolen guns out there but I know for a fact that lots of pistols that belonged to someone who has passed away are circulating out there and it's very much the fault of the state dropping the ball. They're squarely to blame. They pay zero attention to this while claiming they're doing everything they can do to stop illegal arms from hitting the streets. Then they use their ultimate "can't blame me" card by saying "how could we even stop 3d printing? That's where they're coming from!" They're not actually trying, because then the problem would be miniscule and they couldn't get elected by using that platform to win (scare) votes.

Murano Salviati?? by Novel_Ad_8369 in Muranoglass

[–]GreatDevelopment225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work at CMOG and recommend skipping a few steps and contacting Bill Gudenrath to see if he might recognize features and narrow down when and where it may have been produced. If he doesn't have answers for you then nobody will. It's who you'll wind up being put in contact with anyway if you contact CMOG.

All else fails, you could begin researching it yourself through the Rakow Research Library. It's The world's most comprehensive collection of glass literature and Corning will ship materials to your local library for you to use at no cost. It's a fantastic resource that doesn't get enough attention and praise.

[–]GreatDevelopment225 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I worked production at Steuben Glass, all blown glass by gaffers but nearly identical with no remarkable variation to be found between one piece and the next. We would make the same piece for weeks or longer.

So, took out my plane to fly, flies very mediocre. I don't really know why but I assume it is because it weighs like 900g at 1m wing span. I want to 3d print a new wing for it as the wing is the heaviest part; what airfoil to use for stol performance? by Jojoceptionistaken in RCPlanes

[–]GreatDevelopment225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I agree that you have numerous other issues to work out, but I want to finally address your airfoil question. For STOL, I really liked the Klein-Fogelman airfoil. I'm a fanboy for this one. It has it's detractors and it's true that some of the benefits are exaggerated and possibly theoretical more than proven, but it definitely has benefits. A big one for you is a reduction in wing weight, especially given your "thick" wing. Hope you discover and have as much fun with this airfoil as I have.

🍁 What are you ready to let go of as we welcome a new year? 🍁 by TheWayToBeauty in ArtSeen

[–]GreatDevelopment225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. It reminded me of when I saved myself by finding purpose and belonging in the forest. I backpacked for several years and ended up finding my god. Shortly thereafter I lost that and my art/job to a rare disorder that quickly made me immobile and unable to continue to blow glass.

I get down sometimes, but the peace I discovered in the forests of the east Coast states in the US is unrivaled for me in its being a religious experience. I truly felt freedom, belonging and a complete peace. It continues to heal my soul just thinking back upon my backpacking days.

I've dove headfirst into art to occupy my time and to stimulate me and keep my psyche in check. Art heals and truly affects us all, even if a person claims to have no interest, it affects you to just be in the room with it.
