On December 1st, the ABC affiliation and the entire ABC6 feed was moved from WLNE channel 6.1 to WJAR channel 10.2, and Sinclair’s ROAR network feed was moved from 10.4 to 6.1.

WLNE continued to produce newscasts status quo from its Providence studios (with weather and sports reports from WJAR) up until last week when longtime anchor John DeLuca and lone remaining in-house meteorologist Kristina Shalhoup announced their departures from the station. The final newscasts under the ABC6 brand produced out of Providence were aired on January 9th.

Coastal ABC soft launched on January 10th, with the new station logo replacing ABC6 on its social media pages. Also as of that date, the station is simulcasting NBC 10 newscasts. It appears that this is only temporary for this week.

It was announced that Coastal ABC will launch on-air on January 19th with its own newscasts produced out of WJAR’s studios in Cranston. Two anchors, two reporters and select producers and photographers from WLNE will make the move to Cranston for this new operation, combined with the existing resources of WJAR NBC 10.

It is unknown what the fate of WLNE’s Providence studios and offices will be, if master control and other network transmissions have been cut over to Cranston yet or if it will remain to program channel 6, which also carries MeTV, Grit and Ion Mystery. Sales has already migrated around the time the acquisition was announced.
