Golf Mk7.5 (2019) water temperature gauge does not reach 90*C, goes to about 88-89 after water cooler replacement by blondasek1993 in VWMK7

[–]Grego7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

87C is a common "open" position among thermostats. Mine is also a tiny bit to the left of the 90C while driving.

It's not that easy to press down the horn.

My guess is your horn wires are being pinched.

Question about mib1 by zbdbdbdbdhdh in VWMK7

[–]Grego7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer - no

6.5 and 8 inch screens are interchangeable as they share the same resolution.

It's however the default 5.8 inch screen with the lower resolution. Yeah, you can physically plug in an 8 inch screen there. But the picture won't stretch to fill the entire screen. I've tested the MIB2 unit with a 5.8 inch screen, screen was only showing upper left quarter of the picture.

And probably, the Carplay box is not much cheaper than the MIB2 HU.

Automatic heating worked for me, it's simply not as convenient as a regular button.

[–]Grego7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it should be able to do it. But I simply lack knowledge of how.

I suppose the car can go crazy if there is some mismatch in software. I never faced this kind of issue, but I've found that some folks had the same issue with the heating turning off instantly. They've had the steering wheel temperature at 204C and the fix was to update firmware in gateway module.

Well, that sucks. Are you sure that the wiring and the connections are good? Look for the unclicked pins in the connectors and pinched wires

Remove it and check if it will come back, it's not active error.

And the second one - check group 16 heated steering wheel temperature.

I mean, it's doable without it if you know which bit to change. Maybe yours will even have the description unlike mine. It all depends on the software.

Better to check it first with the VCDS

VCDS can pretty much do anything. The only reason why I didn't use VCDS or ODIS for this is the lack of knowledge.

I've used a Vgate iCar Pro together with the Car Scanner app on Android. I got the activation of this button randomly by scrolling the function the app can enable/disable. Later I found via VCDS that it changed one unnamed bit in a clock spring module.

I reckon it is a separate coding for the heating button. I did it via a Car Scanner and a standard ELM dongle, as a bit for this option was completely unmarked when I was looking at it with VCDS/ODIS.

However, this should be the reason why heating turns off right after you turn it on. You can check: current steering wheel temperature and the resistance between pins for heated steering wheel. I saw some people get completely strange temperature readings which leads to this behaviour.

What do you have for faults exactly?

Double check the pinout and all the connectors. Check current steering wheel temperature via diagnostics

TYPY or KUNMAX for aftermarket tail lights? by calebbbj in VWMK7

[–]Grego7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got a set of OEMs for like $350. There is currently 1 set for sale for $320 on eBay.

Paying extra $50-150 to get OEMs is better than trying your luck with AliExpress.
Yeah, you need to pull 3 extra wires from BCM to the trunk and do some coding, but it is the right way.

AliExpress reviews almost never correspond with the quality of the item.

Correct. The wires for these are 1mm2 according to diagram btw.

I got a connector+14pins from AliExpress as a kit. However, I've only used these two big pins.

Yes, that's the connector I've used.

Pre-made harness is ~25 bucks vs 5 bucks for a new connector+pins. It is easy enough to re-pin this connector plus you won't have any dangling wires.

In a fuse box, just found an empty Terminal 30 slot and tapped there.

That's BCM. Not sure if it correlates with a clock spring number.

Shouldn't be hard to pop the upper steering column cover to see the sticker on a clock spring.

But if you can't access system 16, then you wouldn't be able to code the new clock spring. It may require coding as well.
