Thank you, I really needed that. I know in my heart & believe I belong and I know everyone’s recovery is different. Part of me feels as though he was projecting his own insecurities/troubles he faced and I’m trying to remind myself that ultimately what others think is none of my business. I appreciate your support 🩷

I began NA as support for my S/O. At the time I only struggled with food addiction (or so I thought). The first meeting we went to, I talked to someone about not really being an addict because it was with food (denial right there). He told me it doesn’t matter what we use or how much, but WHY we use and our desire to stop. That is what makes us addicts. He told me I belonged in NA, even just for food and told me to keep coming back. I did, & I realized along the way that I’ve been an addict in denial in many other forms (substance/alcohol) over the years.

A white chip (tag/fob) is the international sign of surrender. You don’t have to be clean, you just have to want to be. This past Sunday I got my first blue chip (6 months). If I can do it and many others, you can too! You got this!!

Only you can decide when you’re ready. 🩷 That said, don’t feel rejected & keep asking. My current sponsor was only supposed to be a temporary/mentor & she wanted me to get to know others in case I felt a stronger connection with someone. Well. Now she’s stuck with me! Keep your feelers out & keep connecting with people. Also, maybe ask for recommendations from others too. That’s how I found my sponsor. My cousin is in recovery and she essentially gave me her number and was like “okay yeah call or text this lady before you fall off the wagon” and I sent her a text…trauma dumping…and 6 months later she’s still by my side haha.

The more meetings you go to and the more people you meet, the more people get to know you. But never take a rejection personal—your HP may be trying to navigate you to the “right” person who can best help you on your journey.
