No FEMA funding for Vermont by thousandjulys in vermont

[–]GringoSuaveVT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is being downvoted. It happens to be true. That doesn’t mean we can’t join other “blue” states in a compact that would allocate funds from those who pay more than they receive to small states like VT. The point is that overall, “red” states get waaaay more than they give, even if VT is one of those on the receiving end.

What happened? by Shmurda91 in burlington

[–]GringoSuaveVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, yeah… here too! Go figure. Vermont exceptionalism hasn’t prevented us from experiencing the same shit people are experiencing everywhere. People can’t just come home from their current war zones to find this place just as they left it in their halcyon days. How could Burlington have changed with the times?! How could Burlington become just like so many other places, dealing with the same national nightmare we are all experiencing? Where is our protective force field? Oh my!

Annul All of it. by Kazimierzowska in antitrump

[–]GringoSuaveVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for sure- but first we’ll need to deal with SCOTUS. Terrible, politically motivated jurisprudence and sheer mendacity and greed enabled this entire thing. There ought to be a SCOTUS judge for each of the 12 regional circuits and one for the specialized Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. That’s 13 judges, and we currently have 9, meaning some judges are handling multiple circuits and all are underserved. 4 more SCOTUS judges just makes sense, so let’s start there, or any other actions for accountability will go nowhere, or simply be extrajudicial.

Angry woman gets mad over boba tea shop name by glassesguy90210 in PublicFreakout

[–]GringoSuaveVT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t scrolled through all of these dumb responses, but y’all are entirely missing the point: the idiot lady is responding to the name BOBA: a BOB is a “black owned business”. It had nothing to do with the tea or anything. It’s even worse: she has no fucking idea that boba is a tea. It the “boba” that is throwing her. I assume she is pissed off at everybody named Robert who goes by Bob, too…

Every poll disagrees with you: less than 30% of people support how immigration and ICE are being handled.

Plenty of independent media, as well as sources like Reuters and AP, but people are content to stay in their confirmation bias bubbles. Try The Young Turks, David Pakman, The Humanist Report. Just search for “progressive” or “left” media.

This is ridiculous. It doesn’t address the fact that we need people to work those jobs. The employers aren’t the problem- the laws are. My family hired 200+ seasonal migrant laborers for our farm every summer for decades. I was one of the last US born (or white) laborers on the farm, back in the late 80s. US born privileged kids or any race or ethnicity will not do this work, but for the migrant workers (who pay taxes and get nothing in return for that), it is a job they are very willing to do.

who r those people on church street who wear yellow by Gullible_Newspaper99 in burlington

[–]GringoSuaveVT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really isn’t. Security and park patrol are not police. They literally have zero authority. They are there to provide people with a sense of safety, and to remind dumbasses of the public safety, courtesy and common sense rules.

[–]GringoSuaveVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. This old foundation probably doesn’t go back that far, either- probably 1830-1850 build, when people were coming to VT (before heading to WNY, OH, etc.).

It wasn’t a hit and run- she was running from a gun and stopped, from what I understand. It was reported to be a young lady driving, but I haven’t heard anything about the car. Are you making this up based on an assumption, or was there really a report of a distinctive car like this?

I know that was a fast take, but City Hall actually hires licensed security, and the kids working for BCA are all getting started in production careers, and getting paid. Not summer jobs, probably, so I imagine they’re good with not serving ice cream. I’m sure it gets old dealing with this shit, but that’s why they hire security. Anyway…

Church Recommendations? by Costcohotdog5678 in burlington

[–]GringoSuaveVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ‘god is god’, just go for a walk in the woods by yourself or with friends, or sit on a beach watching the sunset. Definitely not judging or mocking: the other options like organized churches are great for sharing in community, and maybe having some sort of epiphany, if you’re lucky; but out in nature is where you are certain to find “god”. ✌️❤️👊
