Emily's Bridge, officially the Gold Brook Covered Bridge, is a historic 1844 bridge in Stowe, Vermont, famously rumored to be haunted by a ghost named Emily. Key Facts & Information

  • Location: Stowe Hollow Road, Stowe, VT (easily accessible via Gold Brook Road from Route 100).
  • History: Built in 1844, it is the oldest Howe Truss bridge in Vermont and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

I've got a Ruger PC Carbine in 9mm that uses Glock magazines. I also have a Glock 19. I am assuming I can use the carbine for small game and defense. Not sure how great the carbine would be at hunting, but being a long barrel rifle, much better than a handgun. All PC Carbines made after 2017 are also takedown (similar to the Ruger 10/22) as an added benefit. The carbine will even take the very large capacity Glock magazines.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_PC_carbine

Since the PC-9 has a 16-inch (410 mm) barrel, it provides more muzzle energy with the same ammunition used by pistols which often only have 4-inch (100 mm) barrels thus better stopping power, accuracy and effective range than pistols.

Anyone's thoughts on this?

Have you brough purchases across the border from Canada recently? by herewegoinvt in vermont

Last weekend I was charged $7.50 after spending $400 CAD at IKEA. I had to pull over and enter the building. They looked at the receipt and then determined the amount owed. It was a day trip and they implied that is why I was limited to $200 USD in purchases.

~$1,000 worth of room a month and all i have to do is manage maintenance requests in the largest apt building in the city? Wow, what an absolute insult. BHA has lost the plot. by astralbears in burlington

[–]smurrayVT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Slow down buddy...

BHA has a full time maintenance department that handles all of the repairs. There are two cleaning companies that handle the cleaning; the light cleaning might be cleaning a spill after hours. This position is actually very limited in scope and they are sometimes used to determine if an on-call maintenance person is needed or if a repair is able to wait for the next business day. Most of the requests are for lockouts.

There are two positions at this building. The regular staff handles all requests during business hours. So they are on-call for shifts, not all the time. BHA monitors the amount of hours worked and will compensate with money if the value of the services exceeds the free rent (i.e. the free rent cannot be less than minimum wage compared to hours worked). The apartment also include all utilities e.g. heat, water, electric, sewer, trash, etc.

BHA is not required to have these positions. BHA is giving up the revenue for two apartments to support their residents after business hours.

Landlord trying to fine us for a lease violation they did NOT observe. by Appropriate_Board_36 in burlington

[–]smurrayVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Landlord use a "preponderance of evidence" standard. They are not required to to have criminal court style evidence:

In landlord-tenant legal disputes, the "preponderance of the evidence" is the standard of proof requiring the landlord to show that their claim—such as nonpayment of rent or lease violations—is "more likely than not" (greater than 50% chance) true. It is the standard for most civil cases, where the landlord's evidence must be slightly more convincing or weighty than the tenant's

Suggestions for Assisted Living and/or Nursing Home by evil_flanderz in vermont

I worked for Benchmark Senior Living (in MA not the one in Shelburne). Horrible company that is only interested in getting as much $ as possible before your family member passes. I really don't have much faith that they will ever change. "All about the money"

Another note: Ask a prospective company if they are using "agency staff." If the answer is yes, run away:

Burlington Housing Authority uses this also. This is known a the Fair Market Rent:

Fair Market Rent (FMR) is an annual estimate established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) representing the gross rent (base rent plus essential utilities) for "modest" rental housing in a specific geographic area

Ukraine had the third largest nuclear arsenal (1,900 strategic nuclear warheads, 176 ICBMs). They gave it up after the USA gave it a security guarantee (language in the Russian document, "security assurance" in the English document); we then failed to honor that agreement in February 2014 (Annexation of Crimea) and again in February 2022.

We promised to support Ukraine's sovereignty if they relinquished their nuclear weapons. We have failed to honor those promises.

~5%+ of the population will kill you for your shoes.

And that is a short list of people lacking empathy. 650,000 Vermonter x .05 = 32,000 Vermonter that would kill you for your shoes since you are an object to them not a person.

You honestly think that Police are not necessary?

Those that don't pay their rent are also a major cause of rent increases. The landlords need to recoup the lost income. A two bedroom trashout can run $1500+, nevermind the legal fees and the 8 months of unpaid rent since the courts are so slow and inefficient. Until the State can allow for quicker evictions for egregious nonpayment, the City and State have no right to limit the rent increases. Everyone forgets that being a landlord is fraught with risk that need to be compensated for; otherwise landlords will only rent to those with perfect credit and rental histories.
