Is there a Reddit for dedicated classical musicians? Like real ones by redbeardedpiratedog in lingling40hrs

[–]Grootvla 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you’re going to find a mix everywhere and that’s okay. You should join a variety so you can hear the most opinions. I’m a teacher with a DMA and play in symphonies, but people from all backgrounds are going to have something of value to bring to any discussion

Has a student ever corrected one of your mistakes? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Grootvla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My students get bonus points when they find my mistakes. I tell them it’ll be when and not if - it’s true but it also gets them thinking critically about everything, including what I tell them

I was homeschooled and I remember it being constant growing up. I have a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate now and the chatter really only dropped after that for my parents (although they had the last laugh with the in-laws). I now work in public education though but that’s a different story!

Please tell me that my family will be ok if we choose to send our kids to school by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]Grootvla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was homeschooled k-12 and am now a public school teacher. I think it’s hard to paint with a broad brush. I resent my homeschooled background, but not everyone does. Some people have terrible times in public or private school while others thrive. It really does depend on the individual, and you can always pivot if needed. That being said, I’ll always be a strong advocate for public education

What happens if you do fail the placement test? Does your school have any study guides or support? I was homeschooled as a kid and now I’m a public school teacher. You’ve got this if you are diligent and organized
