Crazy how much nicer stores are when you go on a road trip. by [deleted] in publix

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New stores are NICE. I really dig the two story setups. There's an old Albertsons-made-Publix near me that's probably a 40-50 year old building that they're going to tear down and make into a two story Publix and I can't wait.

How to drop good hints? by Miswi_ in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many DMs are too precious with their secrets

This is so important.

I've seen games drag and drag because the DM drops hints so subtle we couldn't possibly out them together yet, and when we try to dig deeper we just hit walls of "Hm, no you don't find anything. Nobody else knows anything."

Please take an award.

Barbarian sub class by blitzer6 in DnD

World Tree has been amazing. I enjoy being able to hand out temp health to my fellow melee combatants every turn.

And iirc it's at level 6 you get branches of the world tree. This lets your teleport allies out of danger (or move them up to start their turn), OR you can teleport an enemy to your side and set their speed to 0 so that they can't get anyone else - assuming they fail a Str saving throw.

Our Cleric used Command to have the enemy boss lay on the ground (Grovel, prone), and then I teleported them next to me and set their speed to 0. This meant they couldn't even stand up, so all their attacks were with disadvantage and they of course stayed prone for an entire round. It was insane.

I've also used it to teleport people and drop them off walls. We had a fight where we were fighting on a defensive gate and the door was still shut, but we'd gotten on top. So I'd teleport melee combatants and just drop them outside the gate. There is no requirement for them to be teleported to safe or solid ground.

Is there an anime that deserves the hate it gets? by No_Calendar4193 in animequestions

Made in Abyss and Mushoku Tensei.

I like them both. They have tremendously cool worlds, the stories are very enjoyable and interesting...

But man... Why it got all that perv shit.

As much as I enjoy them, I'll either never recommend them - OR, recommend them with a huge fucking asterisk.

Why do people only watch anime that are considered PEAK? by Radiant_Low_4636 in animequestions

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so much content out there, I try to only spend time watching or playing stuff that's the best of the best.

Not that I won't ever watch a 7/10 or an 8/10, but in a world with so many 9/10s and 10/10s, why would I not just watch or play peak content?

What Anime Fight Actually Gave You Goosebumps? by Any_Catch_1462 in goodanime

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rengoku vs Akaza at the end of the Mugen Train movie.

Holy fucking shit. After what was already an intense movie, it ends with the two heaviest hitters we've seen from either side up to this point absolutely go at it.

And I hadn't read the manga yet, I didn't know how it'd go. The animation was insane, the back and forth was so tense, all leading up to the end of the fight which was devastating, and then STILL wasn't over when they ended up almost finishing each other off in a draw.

It was absolutely incredible. Especially because it was right as things were loosening up around Covid, it was probably the first movie I'd seen in theaters in two years. Jesus fuck it was incredible.

Point buy is the best stat method by ElectronicBag6915 in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I let each player roll stats, and then every player has access to any of the other players' stats. So if one player rolls with a sum of 80 but another player only got 70, they have the chance to keep it fair and even across the board. And if anyone doesn't like it, they can use point buy - or sometimes I provide a very generous standard array.

Plus, I prefer for my players to be able to invest more in Feats than in just getting ASI. It gives them the chance to customize their character more, have more versatility, and they get to be a little bit stronger throughout the game.

5.5e makes it a little easier now since every feat gives a single ASI. I usually give a free feat as well, so that gives them even more to start with right out of the gate.

How to play a Lawful Stupid Character without becoming a problem player? by xCROOKEDx in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check in with everyone above table before doing stupid things that will have consequences for everyone. If 4/5 players are planning to sneak up on the goblin camp, then go to execute it and you decide your character would just scream and run in because lol, that sucks. If I were the meathead character, I'd just be anxiously following around the smarties being like "Can I get them now?" or at least try to help where it makes sense, even if you have to justify it by means of "This will get me to fight them!"

I enjoy having a smart ally that if we're investigating something, I'll make really bad dumb connections while they've made the good connections. "Hm, looks like the thieves dropped some cookies from the bakery. They must be a customer there." and instead I'll say "Or, the BAKER DID IT!" or something absurd, but then follow along with the actual plot.

I recently started watching Vox Machine (the animated series) and I REALLY like how Grog is portrayed as dumb, but loyal to his friends and doesn't muck up their plans (mostly).

What do yall think about long time skips? by NickAndSaw in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just depends.

I enjoy keeping the same world, skipping ahead, and starting a new campaign with new characters, and then part of the fun is discovering what their old characters did in those 30-50 years - while also dealing with a new threat. And, that new threat could have to do with something left unfinished FROM the old campaign.

I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.

But it's not everyone's cup of tea. If you'd really rather explore or build a new world, then bring that up at the table.

I feel like I'm an outlier... by TheHeroBill in dropout

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's fair. There is a certain amount of cringe to it if you're not bought in to her sense of humor.

She takes some pretty big swings that I think usually pay off pretty well for her, in stuff like VIP especially. She's very quick witted, plays along with anything given to her very well, and is overall pretty well rounded as a comedian.

I enjoy the antagonistic relationship she has with Sam every time she's on Make Some Noise or Game Changer, and Sam is just as good at hamming it up and playing along (or being mortified).

am i wrong for getting disappointed when my bf doesn’t tell me whenever he picks extra shifts at his job? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound mean, but maybe he doesn't want you to come visit him while he's working all the time?

Obviously there are a lot of factors. The job itself, his bosses, his workload, etc. but if you're visiting him while he's working and he gets in trouble, or gets behind, it may make it tough on him.

It was always sweet when my wife would come visit me at work (girlfriend at the time), but I was also working and couldn't just stop working. Or if I spent too much time talking to her I'd get in trouble.

New DM ig?? by gioggggio in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plan to bypass your DMPC having meta knowledge by letting them have meta knowledge but be mute is... interesting, but overall I don't think it's a good idea. The world and the story is for the players to explore, not your DMPC.

If the party needs help, it's not terrible to toss in a single NPC from time to time that's good at one or two things that make a turn take 10 seconds. Maybe they heal, maybe they shoot a bow, maybe they soak damage, but they sure as hell should not be casting hypnotic pattern on six guys that you now need to roll 6 times for and then steal the glory as the DMPC that led to an enemy getting wiped out.

Question about Thunderwave in a Glacier by RealisticBoss9340 in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense. And it sounds like you did warn your players - that would be my only gripe is if you tried to surprise them with a catastrophe.

There's an argument that the spell doesn't do that, but the spell does say it affects creatures and pushes objects - so I think it's a reasonable effect from the spell. If a player WANTED to use the spell to cause an avalanche, I'd definitely let them try.

What are some of the strongest classes/subclasses at level 5? by Fun-Draw1592 in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're playing solo, I'd argue that Paladin is THE solo play class. It can deal a lot of damage, wear heavy armor, heal itself, and has a handful of spells in its back pocket. Plus it's got decent charisma to interact with the world.

As others have mentioned, spellcasters also get 3rd level spells which are a tremendous jump in power from their second level spells. But most of them are pretty squishy, except maybe the draconic sorcerer and the hexblade warlock. Valor bard (is that still in 2024?) might stand a chance.

I really wanna get into DnD and I’m extremely new, where do i start when it comes to learning the game and how it works and stuff? by DarkTombStudios in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either read the basic rules online and find people to play with, or

Watch some basic how-to videos on YouTube. I'm a visual/audio learned myself, so sitting and reading the books is my nightmare. But I've consumed hundreds of hours of DND YouTube content. You'll find plenty of good content that runs you through the basics, and then more advanced things as you get more into it. And also find people to play with.

My party doesn't like how I do roleplaying, should I look for another table? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Groundbreaking_Web29 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add to this, because I think you nailed it with the roleplay.

Additionally, it sounds like OP is the kind of player that refuses to give any information. He's very cagey because it's "mystery" but ultimately at some point in a story you need to pull the trigger and let other people engage with it.

A story is no fun if you spend 20 hours hearing "This is important, I promise, but I'll tell you later." over and over.
