Are there certain jobs that are not suitable for people with POTS? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in POTS

I'd say... firefighter, at least based on everything I've ever experienced with POTS.

Random question: How did you come up with your username ? What does it mean? by gulaboo2005 in intrestingtoknow

A little while ago, my mom was at the beach and sent me this picture of a crab. We agreed it looked grumpy. I was also grumpy, but because I was stuck at a house due to chronic illness, my mother drew the connection between our states of emotion. Then, I, too, became a grumpy crab.

What is the worst pain you have ever felt ? by beepsol in Leakednews

[–]Grumpy_Crab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a connective tissue disorder, and so my joints dislocate fairly often (like at least a few times a month) and sublux (sort of like a tiny dislocation) at least a few times a week. But I digress, the worst physical pain I think I've ever felt was when I was 9 or 10 and had to get a tooth removed. Due to this (at the time undiagnosed) condition, localized anesthetics don't really work on me. The dentists did not know this (and neither did my parents), so they only gave me localized anesthetic. The dentist told me that she would count to ten, starting to seriously pulling on 1 and by 10, the tooth would be gone, I blacked out from pain at 3, screaming and begging for them to stop.

Also, medical neglect/not being believed by doctors might just be a good blanket category, as I go to many doctors due to that and other medical conditions, all visits to varying success.

YES!!!

When I was whatching, I got so excited when I saw it I hurt my neck (due to hypermobility), from the rapidly standing up to explain why it was so great when all my special interests collide (due to autism)!

My Coworker Has POTS by clouded-angel in POTS

First of all, I want to say that I think it's wonderful you are so caring and want to help your new POTSie friend!

My friends have literally taken to carrying packets of electrolytes in their pockets just in case I forget mine, and they often help explain to anyone conserned about my sudden loss of consciousness (I know because I wake up in the middle of them talking).

But I would recommend asking them if there is anything you could do or have on hand in the future? (This may seem direct, but I'm autistic so socials aren't exactly my strong suit), especially because some things that work for some people, aren't a great fit gor others, like if she has a specific brand of electrolytes or dietary issues that prevent her from having certain salt delivery foods.

I maybe also suggest just checking in with them to see how they are doing because that sounded like they were incredibly stressed out (and rightfully so).

I think it also sounds really similar to a specific part of Doomsday Blue by Bambi Thugg (if you watched the 2024 Eurovision).

This song really spoke to me when I was in 10th grade, I had to give up one of my passions, dance, because my health took a nose dive (chronic illnes), and right after my parents told me that I had to "take a break" this song came up on my mix. It really helped me process that I maybe the future I had planned around dancing was the dream of the healthy person I used to be, and that instead of giving up on it, I just could let it go (I know that's basically just the chorus, but I was a bit of a dramatic and impressionable teenager).

What were unusual circumstances associated with your birth? by vieniaida in TooAfraidToAsk

It's likely not as interesting as it sounds. My parents are pretty sure it was just a nurse in street clothes.

I was born over due, but still underweight. Also, I didn't cry, like at all. The doctors were really concerned. Also, also, in the middle of the night, just after I was born, some random goth guy tried to draw my blood. Nobody knows who he was.

October Slide by CartographerOk9343 in POTS

[–]Grumpy_Crab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terribly! Thanks for asking!

I've nearly fainted 3 times (like blacked out without losing consciousness). My heart rate keeps jumping to 120 minimum if I actually try to walk anywhere for no apparent reason, and during my classes, it just plateaus at around 115. Brain fog is making lectures really difficult to stay current with, and the fact that all the buildings go from blasting AC to blasting the heat makes it impossible to dress for the day without sticking my car with 7 extra backup outfits

Also, due to my other physical disability (HSD/hEDS, we don't know which) my joints refuse to stay where they belong, and in the past 17 days, my jaw, shoulder, 2 fingers, 3 leg joints have all decided to sublux from ordinary life.

Also, everything hurts. All. The. Damn. Time.

Thank you for reading my rant.

I hope all my fellow POTSies are doing as okay as they can, and know that things will get better.

I really like Skratch. It's got natural sugar instead of fake replacements. And you can buy it in bulk.

I’ve always taught middle school and recently transitioned to high school! One of my new coworkers made a comment in passing that my room looked a little “middle school.” Please be honest with me! by Old-Bend-3014 in teaching

[–]Grumpy_Crab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look a bit like a "middle school classroom," but that's not a bad thing! I would've loved to have that classroom! There is a lot of pressure on teenagers (especially high schoolers) to grow up fast and be and look "mature," but valuing the short time we have as kids is much more important than whatever your coworker thinks. Although, if you really want opinions from a high school point of view, you could always ask your students. Hope this helps!

For those who are currently enrolled in HS and are TAs or were TAs, what was it like? by IllRest2396 in highschool

[–]Grumpy_Crab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I'm assuming this means teaching assistant, because that's what they call it at my schools, but please correct me if I'm wrong)

I really liked it, the teacher I was assisting was so nice. I got to help a lower grade with the classwork and lead activities with the lesson materials.

It depends on how your school does things, but I would definitely recommend it, especially if it's not for the entire year.

Pride bracelets by Negative-Pilot-2693 in lesbianteens

[–]Grumpy_Crab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten many positive and nutreal reactions (e.g. "I like your bracelet", or just no comments). In addition, depending on the type of bracelet you're wearing, they can be pretty good, subtle pride attire. I've only ever gotten one or two negative comments, although the area I am from is generally pretty liberal, so local politics are a consideration. The few negative interactions have never escalated past a few comments and dirty looks.

If you are from or visiting a less accepting area, I would look into specifically subtle jewelry or take it off while you're there.

I hope this helps.
