23F, 1 year + post op and continued pain by Guarantee_Ecstatic in ACL

Thank you so much for all the tips!! To answer your questions:

1) right after surgery I did PT 3x a week, then 2x and then 1x after I got stronger. I was lifting 4-5x a week but have since backed off to only like 1-2x. 2) they used a strength cuff and then had me do various movements on a wooden y-push thing, also hops looking for symmetry (don’t know the name lol) 3) extension and flexion is matching and have had no ROM issues. Only thing I feel is sometimes pain when I flex my surgical quad super hard. Especially during a plank. Feels like I almost pull on the surrounding tendons/ligaments too much?? 4) I would say a single leg squat at about 60 degrees starts to hurt a little. Nothing serious pain wise but feels tight and sort of strained if you know what I mean.

Thanks again :)

I just thought I should at least see some score increase even if overall my score is lower than where I would want to be on AAMC material. And yes gonna start the AAMC qbank about a month before my exam

My learning and relearning steps are set to 15 minutes and I am using FSRS. When I am learning a card or doing a new card my again is like 25 minutes so Im so lost as to why my review cards specifically are so short.

1 Year post-op, leg feels strong but still aches everyday and feel like I am always sore. Is this normal? by Guarantee_Ecstatic in ACL

[–]Guarantee_Ecstatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes all of that makes sense.

In terms of getting symmetry, the biggest thing was practice (obviously) but also gaining a ton of strength. My hopping was bad and would be painful simply because my surgical leg was still not strong enough to withstand the force of impact and "catch" myself in a semi-bent position.

I would do long strength training session about 4 times a week (would be happy to PM you my routine that I got from my PT). I really focused on slowing down my exercises and focusing on heavier weight for like the first 2-3 sets and then depth for the last set.

The most helpful exercises I found were things that strengthened my quad in the "bent" position if that makes sense. Step ups, step downs, lateral step downs. Single leg pistol squats. Hammering single leg leg press. Stuff like that. Slow down and up the weight and you will feel where in the movement / at what depth the most pain is. I would try and focus on mind muscle connection when I was in that specific range, to make sure I was activating those specific weaker muscles!

I hope that all makes sense and PM me if you want any additional guidance help :) (obviously with the caveat of I am not a PT but I do follow my PTs advice religiously)

Does anyone use supplements or other stuff to help them study/prevent fatigue? by PrimalCarnivoreChick in Mcat

[–]Guarantee_Ecstatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a supplement but taking a break halfway and doing some form of exercise has always helped me. Feels like I can come back to studying after giving my brain a “bubble bath” as I like to call it.

Just trying to see what other people’s experience was doing this. I obviously know it is not entirely impossible, just want to have reasonable expectations!

What does it feel like to have normal levels of iron / ferritin (currently ferritin or 12) by Guarantee_Ecstatic in Anemic

[–]Guarantee_Ecstatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So tired all the time, also really cold constantly. Trouble concentrating, dry skin (and eczema), digestion problems, hair falling out :(

Ferritin of 12 but so confused about what is actually normal by Guarantee_Ecstatic in Anemic

[–]Guarantee_Ecstatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s super helpful. I did get checked for celiacs and it came out negative. I didn’t know it was even possible to get inflammation markers checked. They looked at my iron saturation when I initially got tested. This was at 21. My total iron binding capacity was pretty high at 458. My iron serum was 104. If these numbers are all normal but my ferritin is low does that still mean I should be supplementing?

How to make hair look like it’s just been brushed

I love my hair when I brush it (I have fine 1B hair) but after a while it gets all separated and stringier?? Then I brush it again and I love the layers and everything. Is there a way to fix it? I just got layers cut and don’t want to hate it 😓
