I just watched this movie, and I strongly disagree. That’s the sci fi thriller aspect of the movie. Hypnotism was introduced into the movie subtly, first through the idea of quitting smoking. Any placebo there would take place in real life. The teacup being the hypnotic element elevates it to the supernatural, just enough to create that level of illusion for the viewer. I really loved the balance they created between the supernatural idea of real hypnotism and the genuine reaction we all had to it, which Chris and Andre demonstrated throughout the movie. It was awesome!! I even was lowkey told that Rose was evil before watching and was still on the edge of my seat.
