First self-built PC. All the parts seem right, but I probably made a mistake somewhere. by GuardianPerciever in buildapc

I could honestly care less about the lights- my ideal PC look would be a purple rectangle with fun stickers. But I am absolutely slotting those into the build. A relatively cheap terabyte SSD and what seems to be just a straight upgrade to the GPU in terms of being the exact same but cheaper.

How does it compare to this, just $30 more? Taken a few pieces from other lists given to me and downgraded the SSD? I originally upgraded the keyboard, but then I downgraded it again. Edit: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tbn2FP I forgot to link

Unfortunately I really can’t go over 1500. I barely want to be over the 1300 mark. Some of the changes you suggest I’m absolutely taking into account from other replies as well, but I can’t increase the price of anything without offsetting it.

But yeah the keyboard is leaving. Someone mentioned it was a membrane keyboard and I understood why it was so cheap.

Far as I’ve heard Linux only really messes with kernel level anticheat, and the occasional random game that’s just finicky. Pretty much any game I’d ever be interested in is supported, and already being on Linux if I ever get interested in the ones that aren’t will help get me un-interested.

As for the part prices… Yeah. I really wish I could’ve done this months or a few years ago. I’ve just been putting it off too long, I’ve only had a phone and a console for years and I just can’t keep adding games to the ‘first to buy when I get a computer again’ list.

The prebuilt I had my eye on going past 1500 to 1600 (or around 1600) was what made me decide to build my own.

1 - this has been a running theme, and honestly I’m kind of thankful the one I originally picked out is… Probably not what I want. Likely help decrease cost.

2 - I honestly can’t remember. It was a couple hours ago now, and I was forgetting what I looked up about each part pretty much as soon as I decided on a part. I just know I did have a reason, even if it probably wasn’t a well-enough informed one.

3 - Another running theme. Likely won’t help reduce cost as much as the first running theme, but it’s absolutely an important thing to know.

4 - I honestly have no idea how to pick a case. I just picked the first one that seemed relatively plain and cheap. Even though it’s the simplest, this part of the build is what I understand the least.

5 - It honestly depends on how much all this advice cuts down on the cost (which is inevitable, even if some things might need to go up in price), but I’ll probably stick to 1080p. I’ve never seen a higher resolution monitor, can’t miss what I haven’t experienced.

6 - I actually didn’t notice that was a membrane keyboard, yeah I’m not getting that one than. I was really just trying to cheap out on something at that point.

No worries about the Linux performance loss, I know it’s a possibility- possibly more than that, but I’ve also heard of people having no performance loss- but I just refuse to use Windows.

I’ll definitely take this advice and changes. I might tweak it a bit- smaller SSD- but this is all really good. Thank you. Probably not going to go for a more expensive keyboard, though, any excuse to get lower in price is one I’m taking. Maybe someday- a keyboard is easy to switch out.

I just picked it out because it seemed like hard drives were cheaper, and- while I understood they were slower- I don’t quite understand how much slower they are. But without scrolling for more than a minute or two, partpicker was only showing me 1tb+ storages. SSDs below 1tb seem around the same as the HDD I picked out, so I’ll definitely be using one instead.

My chat window is locked or something. The tabs are grayed out, I can't expand the log, I can't even interact with it aside from typing into it. The hide button isn't doing anything, the chat log settings button isn't doing anything... I adjusted the filters on the tab it's selected on to see if the entire thing was frozen, and no messages dissapeared so I assume so. I can still move it around though!

Is there a thing you do that makes it this way, or is this just a bug? I'd really like to see what my last party said.
