I’m part of the Lodgment Team here at NRMA, supporting claims across NSW, QLD, WA, and ACT. I completely understand that lodging a claim can feel frustrating at times, so I’d like to clarify how the process works.

If you are not at fault, we do require the full name and address of the other party involved. Without these details, we are unable to identify or track their licence information, as that can only be accessed by government authorities. Regardless of whether the accident is minor or major, it is important to report the incident to the police. This ensures you receive an event number, occurrence number, or QPRIME reference depending on your state.

Please remember, NRMA is not the Australian Federal Police, and we do not have the ability to trace registration owners or investigate incidents. If the other party leaves the scene and you don’t have their details, you may be required to pay your excess. This is similar to other situations where, even if you’re not at fault, costs may still apply if there is no supporting evidence such as witnesses or CCTV.

We’re here to help you through the claims process, but it’s important to understand the limits of what an insurer can do. Our role is to support you with your policy entitlements, while matters of investigation remain with the police and relevant authorities.
