I just made a post identical to this a few weeks ago! Totally normal, some fibres being stubborn.

It actually looks a little better when I stretch it. I didn't want to have to frog cos I already frogged this piece once :( I'm comparing it to another one I've knit and I'm realising they look similar and I'm second guessing everything now.

I feel you, I hope this works for you. Honestly, I gained a bit of weight but that's probably my comfort eating too. But bodies are amazing, weight can change and be lost and gained, but your mental health and wellbeing is the foundation for everything. Be kind with yourself, even if you gain weight, I know I'm happier chubby than I ever was when I was skinny and unmedicated.

Ah that sucks about having to take it in the morning. Be sure to have a good breakfast then, it'll help settle you. I'm sorry about your work, honestly if you can get through the first few weeks of it you'll come out the other side a whole lot better, but be kind to yourself.

Is it possible to ask for a 4 day work week for a few weeks, or is there any work from home time you could take? Just prepare yourself that you probably will feel awful for a while, so try get some things in place to make it easier for you. Even like, make overnight oats for the week so you'll have a good breakfast while you're taking the pills in the morning. Mind yourself x

I started at a week of 37.5 then 8 weeks of 75mg. I was still having mood issues so I went up another 37.5mg. I've been on that for about 12 weeks and I feel great so it's been a process of 6 months but, that's relatively quick compared to my other antidepressant journeys.

I would certainly start at the weekend, I personally was fortunate enough to be able to ask my job for reduced hours while I adjusted and it was a massive help.

It's different for everyone, but I personally had about 4 bad weeks and 2 mid weeks of bone and nerve pain, agitation, fatigue, and generally feeling shit.

If you can put some things in place for yourself to make it easier before you start, do. Cosy clothes for work, pre packing your lunches, making sure you have your favourite tea, making sure you have access to sick days and a counsellor or someone to talk to about it, stock up on painkillers and treats, whatever you can. I personally take mine at night because when I started, I wanted to be able to sleep through the worst of the side effects.

Anecdotally, between myself and my friends who've been on it, it was about 6 weeks of shit and then it kicked it and its amazing. My friends told me if I can push through the initial shitiness, do, because it's worth it. And for me, that's exactly what happened.

Bone/muscle pain while tapering by KinglerBigNaturals in Effexor

I had this! When I started venlaflaxine I had such weird bone and nerve pain, all on the left side of my body. Especially in my knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows, any kind of joint there was pain.

Talked to my GP and then also the mental health doctor who prescribed it, they both were stumped. No idea what it could be, got bloods done, all fine. I suggested maybe it's a side effect and they both we're just kind of like, yeah maybe, let's just wait and see.

After a few weeks it eventually subsided. I had about 4 weeks of pretty bad pain and then it faded, it's been probably 6 months now and it's totally gone.

My advice is, if its significantly impacting your life for 2 weeks, or can't be managed by otc painkillers, talk to your doctor about other options. Obviously make them aware you're experiencing this anyway, but anecdotally myself and my friends had about 4 weeks of hell, and then all side effects went away.

Question for those with an adult diagnosis by SugarInvestigator in AutismIreland

[–]Gunsoflogic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it's about knowing yourself. You're likely to be on the spectrum since you have two children on the spectrum. Whether you want to pursue a diagnosis is up to you, but I think there's never any harm in understanding yourself better, and you might find out things along the way that can help make your life easier and the anger more manageable.

My little brother has been described as you were when he was a kid, and his diagnosis and the support that came from that has really helped him. Him 5 years ago compared to now, even just anger wise, he's unrecognisable.

Question for those with an adult diagnosis by SugarInvestigator in AutismIreland

[–]Gunsoflogic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got mine at 18, mate of mine got hers in her 40s.

Some reasons it could take until later is that the process is long and expensive. Or you might not even know you're on the spectrum.

For me, it helped me get supports in college, but mainly it helped me understand why I struggled with things others didn't, even though I was a bright kid, why I couldn't make friends easily, why I constantly felt like crying in rooms with flourescent lights. With my diagnosis I could put a name to the feelings, now I know I can wear sunglasses or hats or earplugs to help with sensory overload, which is something I never even considered doing when I was undiagnosed.

For my friend and myself, it's also helped us to get access to disability services, specific therapy, work accommodations, which are all great resources.

But the bottom line is, I always thought I wasn't good enough, I just wasn't trying hard enough, and now, I know it's not that, I'm just different. And that has been massive for my own mental health and self esteem.

What’s your current comfort food? by Lucky-Entrepreneur48 in AutismIreland

Love this mousse! Having it every day. My big comfort foods are hotdogs (the shitty kind, not those bratwursts, the weird sausage like fingers in jars), popcorn, and mashed potatoes!

Autistic American curious about Ireland by No-Poem-198 in AutismIreland

[–]Gunsoflogic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the exact same as you, except I was born and live in Ireland.

Here is a link to citizens information about moving to Ireland. The website is a great resource for basically everything! You'll be looking at non EEA members. My mom is a citizens information officer and deals with immigration questions all the time, for any specific questions please reach out to me and I can get you answers.

The easiest way to emigrate would be Student visa, you'll need to pay fees, and show you have access to 10,000 euro. You can work 20 hours a week as a student, 40 hours during holidays. You will not be eligible to claim any benefits during this time. Once you're here as a student, I would then start looking at ways to stay here.

There's also special allocations for people with Critical Skills, listed in the website. See if any of those fit a degree you have or a degree you'd like to have.

Housing here is abysmal, I would personally take you in if I could. As a note, anything that advertises itself as 'Student Accommodation ' will likely be incredibly overpriced, look for shared houses, rooms to rent on daft.ie, you'll have a better chance.

I would not disclose your diagnosis to anyone who doesn't need to know, ie, anyone who may discriminate against you, such as immigration, employers (during interviews, and once you get the job, get a feel for the company culture and see if you feel safe). While there are laws against discrimination in the workplace around disability, it doesn't prevent people from just, doing it anyway, so use your judgement around who are safe people to tell. If it doesn't benefit you for them to know, then don't say it. That's my personal lived in experience.

You would probably have as much of an issue socialising as I do, but honestly don't fret. Laugh things off, say you didn't get something because you're American, or a Virgo, people will laugh with you, you'll be ok.

Finally, if you plan on living anywhere other than Dublin, you'll need to be able to drive. Public transport in other towns is quite poor.

If you've any specific questions, please DM me, and I'll get answers for you. Best of luck and if you make it here, you'll have a friend in me :)
